1962-1966 GMC hood marker lamp rebuild thread.

Hey Guys
i see this on a regular basis on facebook and other sites. Asking how to take the GMC hood lamps out and rebuild them. to date I have not found the rivets as of yet so went another route and it worked good on my truck.

first thing is the tabs. you need 2 tools to get them out a flat blade a short prybar. Flat blade goes under the lip of the lens prybar is for the tabs that hold the housing in place. gently and I mean gently depress the tab and use the flat blade to get it unseated

ok once they are out there are 4 rivets. as of yet have had a very hard time finding the correct replacements. the rivets in the housing are hard to find so if someone knows what sixe they are please add to this thread!! I used a small drill to take them out. if your lense are in good shape be gentle and they will not crack

the new lenses came with rivets but I had to get a second set because for some reason maybe technique I cracked the lenses installing them grrrr. So on second set went with some hobby shop airplane screws lol . 2-56 ones with nylock nuts on the back side. worked great. did have to trim some reliefs in the hood for the nuts tho. Replacement lense do come with gasket swhich is nice to see. here are the finished install pics

sick5 I built those. they are cree 12volt 20cm disc led xhp70's. I used a resistor to drop the current to 2 amps lol. first time I powered one up it exploded off the disc and flew across my garage rotflmao!!!! that was at 10amps lol.

Great thread! I don't want to rivet my replacements and my lenses didn't come with any since I bought them years ago (back when there were still U.S. made) and don't want to damage them.
