67 C10, Greentruck From the Greenhouse

Hi, I'm new to this board and I thought I would tell you guys a story about my truck. There will also be pictures a plenty because I like taking them and it will make up for my lacking ability to put thoughts into written words. This truck has been sitting in a greenhouse since around 1982. It was used in my great uncles landscaping business and when he was done with it he just let it sit. I found it when I was 14 (I'm 30 now) and wanted it really bad but he was one of those guys that just never wanted to get rid of anything. Time passed and I kinda forgot about it besides pouring oil down the carburetor every few years and oiling the hood hinges. When he passed away in the spring of 09 he left his trucks to me including this one. I wasn't able to do anything with it last summer (was working on a 56 IH) but then this spring my buddy finally convinced me to pull it out which leads up to now. I'm not going to post everything from this summer just yet, just a little at a time. I have this story posted on another forum from the beginning so if anyone knows about that one don't spoil it! I'm looking at you IOC, just in case.

Anyway, from the beginning. Here is where it rested for 30 years.

Then with the brush cleared out, this is still from last year.

Here is how the interior looked.

Rocker is a little rusty but not bad.

Cab corner is gone.

Pulling it out up next!

do you mean a tach dashs are very rare for 67 from what i know i never see a original 67 witha tach dash and if you mean speed alarm then it must have been a dealer installed option becaucse it is not listed ont options for our trucks

Re: 67 C10, Greentruck From the Greenhouse

No, it doesn't have a tach but the speed alarm is stuck at 55mph and I can't move it, I hope it doesn't work! I didn't know the big back window was rare but I did know the horn button is cooler than the other side of the pillow, haha. It cleaned up nicely later on. I am really happy about the trim, I don't see it a lot and except for around the taillights it is in really good shape. Most of the stuff including the hub caps are staying for a while. The truck only has 66k miles on it and is mostly original so Id like to keep it that way for as long as possible. Its not an auto though, its a 3 on the tree. Thanks for the compliments guys, more to come later!

the speed warning is a fairly rare option. if you decide to ditch it and the alarm, I'd be happy to buy it from you.

The speedwarning dash was an option that was factory installed, not dealer.

Re: 67 C10, Greentruck From the Greenhouse

Yea, I went and looked and the speed alarm was listed on the options on the sticker in the glove box.

Pulling it out! I had to take the back part of the greenhouse apart to get it out. It also had a telephone pole stuck under the back behind the tires for some reason. We got the pole dug out and started pulling it with my tractor.

All that did was move the truck slightly and the tractor was just digging 4 holes in the ground. I had to bring out the big guns aka "The Beast". My rusty trusty old Dodge Ram. Even in 4 low the beast had trouble pulling the truck out. The ol 67 was a fighter but the beast always wins in the end.

Surprisingly only one front brake was locked up as seen by the big trench left by it.

We had to keep stopping and digging that tire out but we got it to a spot where I could work on the brake.

I got the tire off and used my swing wrench to carefully remove the drum and free it up.

I was able to roll it around and rolled her over to the shop for a quick shower.

Dirty girl.

Then it looked like you could drive it away!

More to come later!

Re: 67 C10, Greentruck From the Greenhouse

Next I took out the seat and cleaned all the nasty out of it. I wore a mask because God only knows what animals were peeing in there after they ripped all the stuffing out of the seat. A real pickup truck can be cleaned inside and out with a hose

Then on Memorial day I started working on the engine. Luckily it wasn't stuck after sitting for all those years. I'm glad I kept it filled with oil, haha.

First parts I bought for it. Fuel pump, carb kit, new plugs and points.

Beer supply.

Mixer is off for a quick rebuild.

New pump. Then right after I took this picture the spark plug broke off in the head. The top parts of the metal part of the plugs were all rusted from water washing over them all those years. They were also all old Power Mower plugs, not even the right kind

However, I was able to get the piece out with an easy-out and much cursing.

Then it was time for the first startup!

Little did I know at the time that this year 283 still had the old style oil filter. It was leaking horribly when I started it so I couldn't keep it running for long. We went to the parts store and got a spin-on only to discover the cartridge filter, oops!

Re: 67 C10, Greentruck From the Greenhouse

I certainly did! Found an adapter for the oil filter and put on a new cap and rotor. Don't mind the cheapo chrome valve covers. The rocker arms on #1 cylinder wore a hole in the originals and those were the cheapest way out at the time. I'm still looking for some Cal Customs or finned Corvette covers to replace them. More about the holes from the rockers coming up!

The exhaust was pretty much gone and there was a huge hole in the y-pipe, that's why it's so loud.

Oh yea, that is the alarm for the fire department. It doesn't sound that loud in person, I don't know why my camera picked it up so much. No more updates today, almost time for football!!!

Your truck is a lot like mine.

mine too had around 60k+ miles on it when purchased...only thing the owner did none factory to it was add power steering.

We can be truck buddies!!
