6" Suspension Lift

IM GETTING READY TO ORDER A 6" SUSPENSION LIFT FOR A 1972 4X4...WHATS THE BEST BRAND TO GET ? I WANT A COMPLETE KIT WITH SHOCKS...IM MAINLY LOOKING FOR THE SMOOTHEST RIDE...IT WILL NEVER BE TAKEN OFFROAD...STREET AND HIGHWAY DRIVEN ONLY...HOW ABOUT 35" TIRE BRAND NAME PREFERENCE?

If you don't mind spending money then I would go with the Tuff Country kits, their kinda pricey though but they ride real nice just don't expect to be able to haul a whole bunch of weight with them. Also I would go with new rear springs rather than blocks.

that place should have everything you need, also make sure to get the raised steering arm it isn't included in the kit but you can add it to the kit, same for shocks you get an option of nitro or hydro shocks which you can add to the kit.

I bought my Tuff country lift through Off Road Design, but everything was shipped from the manufacture in Utah.
Richard let me know when you get it all purchased and you can come over and we'll install the lift. I should have my garage wired by the time your ready.

1986 M1031 6.2 diesel, TH400/NP205 locker in the rear and a LS in the front, all stock for now.....
1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone.
1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

I got the tough country sx 9000's on mine.

thats 6'' of lift. Lemme tell ya what a horrible ride. lol its like a tank i feel pebbles on the road.


I got 35'' Super Swampers.

Woooeeee. Sounds like a 747 is flying over me....yes thats what it is.

Hmmmm...my friend has a Tuff Country 6" on his '76. It rides alot better than my '72, with a 6" Superlift. Of course, the latter model truck had a longer, more flexible, front spring. From what I read Tuff Country, and SkyJacker Soft-Ride have the softest spring rates, which should equal the softest ride...

You might wanna consider putting a 'shackle flip' and a 2" spring, or block in the back (even though I personally HATE blocks) The more lift, the stiffer the spring usually is.

One word of advice. Get NEW bolts for the front springs. Its ALOT easier to get the old ones out, if you don't have to worry about destroying them. Also, new bolts are just nicer . The front ones are a wierd size (9/16s, if I remember) so you may have to look a little to find some... better to have some, than to have to go looking, in the middle of the install, IMO.

springrate table for the major brands, although those rates are for 4" springs I would just add some rate to them for the 6" springs, the tuff country springs should still be the softest (their EZ-Ride springs that is).

i wouldnt go with a 6" spring if you're looking for a smoother ride. if its a true pavement queen, and running a fairly stock divetrain, you should be fine with a block lift. personally i'm going to go with a shackle flip and a 2" spring.

Ya gotta put a spring, in the front, to do it right.

Front blocks = scary mess.

'shoulda seen the POS this guy at work lifted (front blocks). Nothing like the sight of a truck, with the front axle moving around, underneath, to put the fear 'o' stuipidity inta ya...

I think hes talking about just for the rear, everyone knows blocks in the front are no good except for zero rates, their safe for the front end but only limited to 1".

If you don't want springs I would go with a shackle flip and 2" springs myself. If you go with 6" blocks your going to have to deal with axle wrap, especially if you like the skinny pedal and have plenty of engine to go with that.

IM DEFINETLY GOING WITH SPRINGS IN THE BACK AND BLOCKS IN THE REAR..I DEFINETLY EANT 6"..JUST DECIDING ON THE BRAND...IT SOUNDS LIKE "MOST" PEOPLE REALLY LIKE THE TUFF COUNTRY KIT.

I can't speak for the tough country lifts as I've never ran one but I will give praise to the Skyjacker Softride springs. I'm running an 8" lift on my truck and it rides at least twice as nice as the stock suspension. I would also invest some money into nice shocks. I'm running the Rancho RS9000 series 5-way adjustable shocks and you can really fine tune your ride with these. I have a friend that is getting ready to take a complete kit with chrome shocks & stabilizers and all off his truck. He is taking it back to stock. Not sure of what brand. This is on a show truck so was never abused. here is a link to a picture of his truck
