Restore/ hot rod an air compressor?

So I've got parts from two different air compressors that I thought about building a good one out of. The pump I have was from a working compressor that the motor went out on. The "complete" compressor I have the pump is bad on and maybe the motor also, but the tank is good. The rpms for the motor on the complete compressor are too high for the good pump anyhow.
So what do you guys think... new motor, rebuild pump, cleanup and custom paint the tank? We build custom trucks, why not a compressor?

I would just say you need to do a good inspection of the tank. That's a lot of force that will let go all at once if it fails.

Match the motor speed or pulley ratio to the pump and they'll be happy (~1k) pump RPM is good. Then look at tank pressure. 3540 motors tend to hawk up a lung.

The green pump appears to be a Kellogg American pump. I would use that pump for sure.

The old motor for that pump was a 1740 rpm with a 1 1/8 inch shaft. I still have it so I'll have to get the measurements from it to figure out what to get.

I'm not quite convinced it is a Kellogg, I need better pictures of the green pump. I can't quite identify it from that picture. The old pumps are great. They can be rebuilt many times, and simple/easy to work on. I would use the old pump, and put it on the red tank. Add a new Baldor motor, and your hotrod compressor will outrun any import from one of the home-improvement stores.

Hey neighbor, just noticed your location. I'm in Eagle... I don't know anything about Rol-air pumps, I just wanted to point out that it wasn't a Kellogg. Either way, I'd rebuild an old quality pump over a new import any day! Got a good front and side picture? I was wondering if it was a single cylinder or a two-stage pump. If you have 240v power, a true 2-stage 5hp pump in the 15-20 cfm range is the best hot rod compressor for a home shop. If that is a 1 stage, less than 10 cfm pump, I wouldn't bother rebuilding it unless it is just for filling tires or you only had 120v power.

Slightly off topic, the best "old" pumps out there to look for: Champion, Kellogg, Quincy, or Saylor-Bealle. They all make "real" CFM, run quiet, and are rebuildable for many generations.

Here is another number I found on it.

Looks like maybe a Campbell Hausfeld TF pump.

I can't identify that pump, it is nothing I am familiar with. By the piping and cylinder, it is a two stage pump. It is definitely not a Kellogg pump, but with some similarities.

I would run this pump with no reservation. At the right RPM with a 5hp motor, it will be a REAL +/- 17 CFM compressor. Watch eBay for a 5hp Baldor 1725 rpm motor. If you are patient, you can get them brand new for under $300 shipped.
