'49 OE Clutch/Brake pivot bracket, Spring Retainer?

I've got a '49 GMC 100 that I'm working on and I plan on using the OE brake pivot/bracket. My problem is, the retainer that was on there holding the spring and the brake/clutch linkages was a banged up washer. I've searched (this site, among others, including google) and haven't found what was originally used as a retainer.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow. But does anybody know what I'm talking about?

The original repair manual, didn't yield any info either. I've tried some e-clips, and snap rings but they are too narrow to hold anything.

I'm considering just drilling in the retainer groove and using a cotter pin.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete
