'51 project

hey i'm new here and i'm starting to plan my project. any help would be much appreciated. i haven't bought the truck yet but i am looking at a 51 3100. it has been in a heated barn for the past 16 years and is very solid. the only thing missing is the sides of the bed and bed floor. the owner has had the original inline six completely rebuilt and has an extra head for it. now i already have a blazer frame that i am planning on using for the 51. i also have a sbc and 4l60e transmission to go in it. it also has the original bench seat that i plan on replacing with a set of racing seats that will be customized into a solid bench seat. i plan on back halfing the frame and using a coil over triangulated 4-link set up. the front would also be coil over with custom tube a-arms. i have also been looking at a manual rack and pinion steering setup for s-10's. i would like to put zo6 brakes and some custom wheels on it.

if anyone would like to add any input negative or positive it would be much appreciated.

thanks.

Re: '51 project

Sounds like you have quite a project on your hands but it should turn out pretty sweet looking. Post pics of everything. If you have any questions about anything just ask but from the sound of it I'd say you pretty much have everything under control.

Re: '51 project

in my experience none of the headers seem to fit... you need to make them fit.. guaranteed to fit would be the ram horn design or the sanderson manifold type. i'm not sure how i got mine in but they clear by a 1/4 or less in places...
we need pictures by the by. the more the better

Re: '51 project

i got a new lead on a diiferent truck today. it's a 51 but it's a suburban instead of a truck. has anyone done an s-10 frame swap on one of these bad boys. i really like the suburbans better than the truck so i'd like to go that way but i need a little information. i really like the sublime suburban that was built for truckin'. i need some opinions. oh and i have changed my idea from coil overs to air bags. i wanna drag frame.

Re: '51 project

I've seen one. Not in person, there was a guy that did it. I did a quick google for it and came up with nuthin. I think it was yellow or green. I do remember him using a crane to lift the suburban onto the frame.

Re: '51 project

i went and looked at the 51' suburban today... it's very rough. needs every piece of glass replaced, floor replaced, alot of old mud ground out and fixed, and that's just scratching the surface. the 51 pick-up has everything and alot of new parts with it, and it costs less.

Re: '51 project

i haven't gone to get the truck yet but the guy is in no hury to get rid of it and i'm the only one that knows it's for sale. i recently traded my small block for a 396 big block out of a front engine drag car. i've been thinking alot about the project and thought it might be cool to borrow a few ideas from the trucks used in fast and furious. let me know what you guys think. i can go into detail about the plans if necessary.
