muffler suggestions

I have flowmasters 50 series on my truck and I think they are little louder
than I was looking for. I am using an 85 corvette engine. I would prefer the truck to be as quiet as possible. Any suggestions on what I could use?

Re: muffler suggestions

I just put on Flow delta 50's to quiet down what was on before. Edelbrock 2 chambers. Couldn't here yourself think at idle with those. the dishes in the kitchen cabinets rattled when the truck was idling in the driveway. and this was with a mild 283.

Anyway, have you tried a crossover pipe? Do the pipes exit at the back of the truck. This may help in quieting down what you have. The 70 series are supposed to be quieter by how much I don't know.

Re: muffler suggestions

glass packs are the way to go quiet till you hit the go peddle... the longer the better!

Re: muffler suggestions

I run Dynomax on mine, medium tone, but with the cam and them dumping right behind the cab I could set off car alarms idling through parking lots. This time around I'm running them as far back as I can, at idle the reverb gave my wife headaches.

Re: muffler suggestions

my 56 1/2 ton has a 400 small block, tubular headers, 2.5 inch pipes and Flowmaster 40s, thanks to the P O.
TOO LOUD!!!
Flowmaster 80s cost $130.00 each. That is more than I want to spend.
Flowmaster 40s cost $30.00 each on sale at Summit Racing.
So, I bought two of the 40s, cut the front end out of them, stuck them onto the rear of the existing mufflers, welded the cases together....and TA DA.
Instant Flowmaster 80s.
With tailpipes dumping in front of the rear tires, the sound is accceptable.
Maybe I should do the balance tube in front of the muffler inlets.
but I can live with it the way it is now.

Re: muffler suggestions

the mufflers are about just under the cab and the exhaust are dumping out before the rear tires and are not crossed over, just from the headers to the the muffler etc. It is just hard to have a conversation with someone in the truck so quieter would be better.

Thank you for the comments.
