Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Thumbs up Re: How Much Interest: 13" Big Brake Upgrade

I'm interested, SCOTI. I've been contemplating a "poor man's" performance brake system for a while now. You mentioned the price of some of the "kits" out there. Yeah, I know. Whew!

I first became really interested when I saw what Stacey David did with project Copperhead. He initially installed the very same Early Classic dropped spindles that I have. I was psyched - but then he went back and installed a Baer Eradispeed "kit". Real nice, but… the price! That's led me in other directions.

So, bottomline, I'm interested - but with a "qualifier" (and it doesn't just involve price either). If I have to go turning down the spindles to install some other hub, I'm afraid I'd have to say the deal's off. But, if I could be assured of a reliable (as in well engineered) caliper mounting bracket (and, yes, I know I'd probably have to cut off the existing caliper mounts), a true bolt-on hub with separate disc hat and good calipers (buy, using junk yard cores as trade-ins for the new ones maybe?) - all reasonably priced and available, then I'm all in. THEN, it comes down to price.

This kit would most likely involve the typical trimming of the spindle 'ear' or 'caliper mount' to be able to mount the new caliper bracket; no machining of the spindles 'hub'. The kit would also use a manufactured hub -- not an old rotor cut down to make a hub.

As for the calipers (& prices), you would be able to use whatever source you want.

I'm just like one of you guys..... I'm just attempting to align the stars so we can have this option.

I'm not affiliated w/the manufacturer in any way. They just happened to be the only ones that would consider a kit such as this & who took the time to discuss various opportunities w/me.

I've been real busy @ work & was waiting for the poll to be posted for 1-month. I was hoping to have @ least 100 members express interest in a kit but fell just a little short. Even though we didn't make my goal, we did get a couple of 'names' in the hat that should help tilt the scales in our direction (thanks go equally to everyone that voted!!).

I drafted up a professional e-mail (? . ..... my educated blue-collar buddy proof-read it & said it 'appeared' professional for whatever that's worth ) w/links containing the poll, members comments, & some backround info on my 68 w/the list of mods so they knew I was capable of helping see this through the 'pre-production' stages if necessary.

I'll follow up & let you guys know what happens when I hear back from them.

Re: How Much Interest: 13" Big Brake Upgrade

Guys.... I emailed the engineer for some updates & got this reply from him:

"You're still on the radar.... We've got the knuckles for the
72+ disc applications, 88-91, and 92+ 1/2 tons. We modified (i.e. hacked)
the knuckles this last week and are working on reverse engineering the
knuckles so that we can work up some prototype brackets right now. Please
be patient as it always takes longer than we want it to, but we are working
on it.
"

Progress is good news!

I'll be checking back in w/them next week to see if any progress has occurred.

I've delayed putting my spindles/hubs back on my 68's front suspension in hopes that something would come along. I'm going to go ahead & slap it together w/the factory discs for now so I can get it back on the turf (not so proud member of the 'jackstand' club).
