Who saw the eclipse?
Things worked out. UVA released my mother, she is much better, but still some infection, had to go to a rehab/hospital in my state. The drive over was quick but the drive back involved avoiding the interstate, I used the parkway for about 60 miles and should have used it longer....I81 traffic was bad.
I got a two hour break to load up my dad's truck and then off to TN I went. I didn't get the least bit tired, even after driving 15 hours total for the day. I was in bed at the motel by 4:30 AM. I saw the eclipse at a park. My helmet did the job fine. I got a short "flash" by accident while loaning my helmet to an old lady whose "glasses" weren't cutting the mustard. Hopefully I'm OK. It's been 11 hours since and no flash burn, hope I'm OK. Sorry, no pics, there just wasn't time for that. Only 20 seconds total of totality where I was but it was really something to experience. The crickets began chirping, the street lights came on, and a big bug flew into this kid's mouth that was standing near me. The crowd cheered. It was "everything I thought it would be." *Tomorrow I am off to a TN junkyard for two OEM '72 doors...wish me luck on Phase 2 of the mission. What are your eclipse stories? |

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
Personally I didn't give a rip about the eclipse and had zero intention of bothering to look. And then (haha) the neighbor girl from the business next door to where I work came over. Her mom bought 50 pairs of Bill Nye the Science Guy Eclipse viewing glasses. She was giving them to everyone in our business park. Soooo, I checked it out, how could I not, right? Begrudgingly I admit it was "kinda" cool. We didn't get 100 percent full where we are, I think it was 97 percent. Temperature cooled off and we had the long shadows. Took a pretty long time to get through the whole cycle.
Photo surround is a little blurry, but eclipse part is Ok. When you put the glasses on the eclipse is much bigger of course. Had to hold them like this to get it to work for taking picture with cell phone.

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
They stopped work for everyone to enjoy. As little as I cared , it was amazingly cool. It got "before a storm dark" outdoor lights came on. Full eclipse in middle Tn. Another glimpse of God's greatness! !

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
I was around 97 % here. The best part to me was the leaf shadows.

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
Yup, 2-1/2 minutes of totality here. We went outside at work for about 10 minutes. I might have sneaked out for a minute or two a couple times as it was overlapping.

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
Heres a few pics from here in pa. Taken some time around 1:30-2:30.
The kids took these and sent them too me. Pretty sure the first pic is through a welding helmet. We had alot of spotty clouds.

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
I was at work so I couldn't take pics...(cameras not allowed)...our work bought us all glasses and gave us time to watch...we had 96%...we all thought it would have gotten darker than it did..outdoor lights came on...the sky turned a cool grayish color. .
one cool thing I did was take my glasses and hold them about 2ft off the ground and let the eclipse shine thru the lenses and it made 2 very clear eclipse pics on the ground.. |

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
We were in total totality 99%
Welding helmets and all. You could hear crowds cheering far away when the eclipse hit its peak. Temp dropped, eerily quiet & dark Last time I experienced an eclipse I was in my early teens. Now 50 Gotta smile and take part when things like this happen. Lifes too short to be a grumpy guss |

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
I had a viewing party on the roof at work, but unfortunately it got really cloudy leading up to the eclipse. We missed the peak which would have been 98% coverage in our area, but we did get to see the end of it. I also brought my little ones along.
Here's a fun challenge. Try to explain the eclipse to a three year old. This is my daughter after I tried to explain it to her. My son kinda bought my explanation at least

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
I brought a welding helmet to the job and checked it out a good bit. We were at 80% here. Still really cool. Things just feel different. The lighting isn't only dimmer, it's all the light w/o the direct beam. The grass in the lawn had shadows.
Man, that picture with all the crescents is exactly what I remember seeing and describing to people since we had an eclipse here when I was a kid. I never got more than a "hum" out of anyone. I was probably 6-8 riding in a station wagon on a 2-lane parkway along a creek with a canopy of trees over it. There was a mid-50s Buick in front of us and those crescents were beaming all over that rounded truck. That is such a strange thing. Try explaining that... to an adult!

Re: Who saw the eclipse?
My wife and I drove up to Cleveland, TN and enjoyed the day at a local park. Only about a minute of totality but worth the drive.
