Re: Got it Finished.

I have been watching the rebuild and I am a fan . My truck in high school was a 77 shortbed that was the same original color with red interior . I love the finished product you have there . Perfect color . Looks like the original color , only with more gloss . Nice job and your detail work is what really makes it stand out .

Re: Got it Finished.

Awesome job on your truck. I am so happy I found this thread. This will be one of my reference documents. Not only have you done a great job on your truck but you took the time to share it, thankyou. I am in the research stage of rebuilding my truck which is a 1979 GMC Sierra Grande which has similar colors to yours. I was going to change my interior from the present red to grey but after seeing yours I think I will keep mine red. My exterior is two tone grey with white, may keep it the same but I sure do like the looks of yours. One question, is your dash a replacement pad or the original?

Thumbs up Re: Got it Finished.

Please don't flame me, but here is one totally awesome truck! I know some like lowered and some like lifted trucks. The stock look is cool too! I bought my truck to use. A lowered truck gives up its capacity and radically raised truck aren't practical so in my book this truck totally cool!

Thanks! Everybody else's various pics and write ups helped me a lot, so it's good to be able to pass it on.

I also thought about doing grey or black on the inside, but hey all you can get now is grey, tan and sometimes black. Can't get red on anything, and it's retro cool and OE, plus it's a nice shade of red.

My dashpad is the original. I just repainted it with everything else so it all matched. It was all red before, just various shades here and there.

87bob: I agree with you. I just don't like lowered trucks, You can lower them and not loose capacity, but I just don't like it; looks better on camaros or chargers.
I had a boss that wanted to haul lumber in a truck with an 8 inch susp. lift and a 3 inch body lift, which was a major PITA, especially if you needed that tool in front center of the bed; lots of climbing.

Mine probably won't do tree limb duty in the spring, but otherwise it'll do what I need it to do. That's gonna suck too cause I used to load it 6 or 7 feet above the cab and on the cab to take to the back of the property.

Re: Got it Finished.

Must be your climate because I have never seen too many dash pads from those years that were not cracked. So is your whole interior original except for your seats and console.
What do you think about a two tone paint job. Seems most of the trucks I look at that have been restored are one color.
Here is a picture of mine in much need of repair. This is all new to me but I am going to do it right as you have done.

My dash made it because the truck has been garaged religiously since it was brand new. All the interior pieces are original except the seats n console. The doorpanels faded a bit and everything had small stains here and there so I repainted it all to match.

I think your truck looks good with the white two tone. I wouldn't do the roof though, I'd repaint it just like it is. If mine was two tone, I would have repainted it as two tone IMO. Your truck looks like a good start, you'll get it all done up one day and it'll all be worth it

Re: Got it Finished.

Got bored today and installed the trans cooler. Bought a B&M SuperCooler 70255. I haven't had any problems, I just feel better about having a cooler. I don't load it down much, but usually when I do I load it down real good.

Here's how it started out; The black needed to be repainted anyway, I just waitied until I put the cooler in.

The grommets did NOT come with the kit, I had them laying around the garage:

Here the overall finished shot

Re: Got it Finished.

Looks like your truck was just driven off the lot. Under the hood looks spotless. Nice that it was kept in a garage all the time and was always looked after. Reminds me of my car a 1996 chev lumina with 84,000kms. It has never been winter driven and is always parked in a garage. It still looks brand new, to clean the engine bay I only need to run a hose to take the dust off. The interior has a new smell still.

Re: Got it Finished.

Damn nice truck, I love it, id ditch the tool box though, if it were me id get a smooth weather guard, and paint it to match the truck.

Re: Got it Finished.

Put my column mounted tach in today. It moves with the column when shifting gears so it's aimed right when it's in Drive.
