Re: factory grease pencil marks?

Hey Pete, in the thread you referenced their talking about trim packages, not the trim pieces(moulding). I think the trim package level is still in play. On Renos truck it's a Z62, the second trim level.

EDIT, I just went through my collection of markings and so far, their all consistent with
Z62 = T2
Z84 = T4

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

Thanks Keith & Bruce for decoding mine. I suspected the LS9 and the M38, but the others?

As far as the T$, here is the side of my Cheyenne.

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

brown7373, happy to help. Your truck is consistent with T4 = Z84(Cheyenne trim). That's a very nice looking Cheyenne you got there. Thanks for posting the pics.

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

We were very lucky when we bought this truck. My wife and I decided we wanted to buy a 67-72 Chevy pickup, and she talked about it in the dental office she worked in. One of the doctors was at the Zephyrhills Florida auction in winter 2004 and bought this truck. He decided he'd sell it to us for what he paid, or sell it for a profit if we didn't want it. Turned out to be exactly what we wanted and we bought it. It had 48,000 miles on it when we bought it and everything worked well. It had been a great truck!

I thought the same thing about it already being in Baltimore, but it was already BLUE when it was written on the firewall too !!! LOL ( that is the original paint on the firewall ) We'll probably never know for sure.
B may stand for carb type as on POP

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

OK, I have read through this thread trying to figure out what the markings on my Blazer's firewall mean. I get that the 044 on the firewall, core support, and frame crossmember are a sequence number, and the model number is on the passenger's side firewall, but the markings on the the driver's side don't match the LS9/M20 engine/trans. combo that the Blazer has. That and there is only a "T" on each side of the firewall, not a "2T" like it should have. Does anybody have any input?

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

Just a guess but as K5's didn't have belt (upper) moulding maybe "T" was all that was needed to denote the bodyside (lower) moulding...

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

I don't know if truck owners didn't clean the underside of the hood or what. I assemble tractors in E.Peoria and they ***** if there are marks ( other than torgue marks) so the fact that so many of these (grease pencil marks) are on these trucks just floors me

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

This image is from this article:
http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/additio...mc-c10-trucks/

It is under the hood of Reggie Jackson's '68C10 according to the article.
I had read the article some time ago and in revisiting the photos (after having read through this thread) I had one of those AHA! moments where my eyes could see what had been 'noise' before. Thx

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

I always think it's funny when I see these markings. That would've been the first thing I did is clean them off when I brought the truck home. But nowadays it's a big deal to see them on there. And then you see people put the marks back on after a respray too.

Nice!

I know the Dave Bolognino mentioned in the article.

Makes "Linda" the lady that signed the Pontiac glove boxes look like a slacker!

Re: factory grease pencil marks?

We did something similar with the hood from the first Volt (integration car) but the hood was removed and framed. It is now on display in the preproduction build shop.

Not as cool as the Corvette, though. The hidden aspect is pretty darn neat.

mgkgmc, Here are a couple matches to your "D" and one for your "R" Probably safe to say your truck was built at Freemont. Those are painters marks/initials. They were done by the painter, just after they painted the cab and before the cab went into the "oven". They were scratched into the paint when it was wet. Those initials seem to be something that only the painters at Freemont did. Haven't seen them on trucks built at any other plants. I have found them from 65 to 72 at Freemont, both chevy and GMC, but not on every truck built..
