Ran When Parked ?

I picked up a project that ran when parked. The motor is not original or at its best. It looks like it may have been rebuild from looking at this freeze plug . I got it running but small backfire through carb at idle, I can't time it out. Could use ideas.

Thanks

Double check that the firing order is correct 18436572.
Make sure the mechanical advance spring are in place.
Make sure the ignition rotor is tight.
Check for broken valve spring/s.
Check for a flat camshaft lobe.

"What he said!" And add an inline fuel filter to that list! No telling what kind of crap is in that 45 year old fuel tank just waiting to clog up a shiny new carb? A lean condition from a semi clogged carb will bark through the carb, especially on cold starts...

Re: Ran When Parked ?

Thanks Guys, I will get started on those things and see if it helps. I did not want to jump into a full rebuild just yet.

Check that the timing mark on the Harmonic Balancer is still keyed to TDC @ Cyl #1.
