Last one. '77 Suburban. This is the day I bought it a few years back. Haven't done anything with it yet.

Re: Survivors - original paint

Willowrun,
Thank you very much for sharing your survivor trucks. They are all very beautiful. You are very lucky / fortunate to have been able to acquire such a select fleet. Around this neck of the woods vehicles like that are pretty well non existent. The winter weather has sucked the life out of them long ago.

I derive great pleasure in seeing original relatively unmolested trucks.
Survivors are so rare.

Re: Survivors - original paint

Hi,

I have no plans to repaint my '77. A previous owner attempted home-made patina preservation (I think they sanded it with a power sander, not by hand), so I might have that professionally painted to preserve the metal, but that's it. Not sure about the black hood. I think it's just part of the truck's history.

Re: Survivors - original paint

My 86 K30 with just a little over 36,000 original miles.

Has original factory paint with FD adding their markings, when it was delivered to them with only 10 miles on it in 1986.

I've added suspension, tires and flatbed. Everything else is how it was as delivered to the department when it was new.

Vehicle was still in their FD fleet and utilized, until sold by dept in 2014.

Re: Survivors - original paint

My 87 isn't original paint (originally it was blue on top with grey around the bottom), but it looks an awful lot like Joesjunk's truck.

That's the key, "nice original paint". Whenever "original" and "survivor" threads come up, the "condition" needs to be stated also. There is a big difference between an original paint truck that has been garaged and babyied, and an original paint truck that has been worked hard and kept outdoors all its life. Joesjunk collection is super impressive, he knows the difference well. His spectacular truck collection look like there all less than 1 or 2 years old. Obviously there will be more '81-'87, than '73-'80, but any "nice original paint" truck is getting harder and harder to find.

Re: Survivors - original paint

First post here. Loving what I've seen so far. My '73 K20 has its original paint (everything else is also original) but it's not exactly desirable. The floor pan's about to collapse, let's just say that when I rock it, the body moves independently of the suspension and makes the abominable noise. Dad left it out in the back of the woods in '92 because he got a brand new GMC, and it sat there until summer of '15 when I got the tractor out and pulled the baby out from her grave. Seized up small block which I should really dive into soon. My grandfather bought it brand new in '72 so it will see a restoration. The northern Minnesota salt and ice has just trashed all existing sheet metal.
