Maybe if you had at least used new steel?
Old rusty diamond plate and 55 gallon drum scraps just seem a little unsafe for something as important for saftey.
Plus it looks like the sides where you cut all the support away are kinda thin.
If they fail it's not your life that worries me. It's the family returning from the mall with grandma that you happen to crash into causing "instant death"
This just looks a little sketchy.
But otherwise, great work!


One more thing.....Please consider a short bed conversion.
Your friends and neighbours will thank you.

The dimond plate looks worse in the pics, it's actually not that old
It's scraps from the s10 I bagged not long ago
It's 1/4" steel so it's plenty
If it was any thicker I would be just putting more work into it

The shortbed conversion is out of the question
To me there's nothing like a bagged longbed, they just look so much better layedout

Will drill the hole for the bag and drain holes when I bolt them in

Haha,good man! So many guys are just convinced that the only way these trucks can be cool is if they are shorties. I love them all, but I love the low longbeds and longbed steppers best of all.

Thats cool.
That spot where your cup is open closer to the bushing is where I was talking about T metal is thin/narrow in that area. Would hate to see it bend or even worse fail alltogether.
Have you considered a frame Z?
I just compleated one and it really is not hard to do. Has many advantages over what you are doing here. You are going to find that your lower arms are going to be dragging scraping all the time. With a Z you avoid this plus you raise your trans, exhaust and you can even center the wheel if you want.
Plus your not cutting suspention parts which should awalys be avoided.

im doing a bodydrop still

evryone forgets that its a daily driver.
to top it off i live in appartments
all my work is either done on the side like these lca's and ho i did my notch
i try not to park it for more than a day so it makes it even more of a challenge

ive bagged two of these trucks and both layed rocker.
i would love to z it but my time and space dont meet the requirerments

all my side work is based out of my truck and i do more of mobile fabrication
granted im still a kid in most eyes but i have much more knowledge then im given credit for.



as for the lca's they will be plenty strong, i know i didnt completly box in the back part of the control arm but you learn alot about stregnth when working on trophy trucks and rock crawlers
theres more than enough
like i always say "bolts are for people that dont trust their own fabrication skills"

took some pics of the lca's bolted in and aired out
and some other issues im going to clear in the next couple weeks

carrier bearing crossmember is hitting so thats next to go
exhaust is scraping on just about everything lol

need to get some more 3/8 dot line so i can bolt in my pie cut ucs's to get an inch or two lower because the balljoints are maxed out when lowered all the way

Cupping a set of lca's for a fellow forum member

Fixing the front end of a family members avalanche that tboned a car

And trying to get my 84 k-5 in running order
961,000 original miles!


Going to be working on tonneau cover pritty soon

not my year truck but im enjoying this thread. great fab work. I only wish i knew a fraction of what you can do. Im determined to learn to weld. That being said those HF cheap welders like the 70a arc welder or the 90a flux wire, would those be ok to learn on? and with one of those would i be able to do anything sturdy enough to my truck where i dont kill a family of four on their way back from the mall as one of my welds breaks? just sayin'

as for the welder and why i use it its also to prove that it can be done.
please practice practice practice before you touch the truck.
safety is a huge thing for me and i wouldnt put someone in danger of bad welds

but it would be an excellent welder to learn with
once you have it down i would invest in a nicer one

im a full certified welder so i can make this piece of crap work just fine

I'm pretty sure my spare is a stock steelie ,I'll have to look tomorrow to be sure. You wouldn't happen to have another wheel such as a rally to swap for it would you? I will let you know if its got the nubs for caps tomorrow ,I know it is definitely a 15. Dan.

Of course when you ride low and the way your not suppose to things tend to break. My bar for my bridge in between the notches broke before the welds, do to a design flaw and using thin tubing.
Finally decided to bust out the 1 1/2" round chromoly
Put a little twist to it but I like it

Let me know what you guys think
I did this in about an hour and I'm not so sure I'm done yet and might have some other things up my sleeves



The bars do not touch but because its a higher strength steel it won't require being attached to each other
