Re: My 1965 Suburban

Progress is non excistant at this point. I bought a real solid '65 LWB for a daily driver, been putting it together as time allows. I had carpal tunnel surgery and the Mrs is having a hip replacement, so shop time hasn't been a priority. I do plan on being in shop this weekend, and try ti finish up the truck, then bring the 'Burb back in.
Thanks for the interest, I'll keep ya posted.

Re: My 1965 Suburban

So you could use a "parts wife" and a parts truck as well?

Re: My 1965 Suburban

Well the time has come to let the 'Burb go.

I have done actually nothing to it for several months, it's ben picked over for odd pieces here and there for the truck, and frankly I have lost a lot of interest in it. Even tho the turbo motor is just about completely done and a lot of parts are in the barn for it, I have decided to trade it off for another project.

Basically it is going as a rolling shell, as we kept all of the Painless harnesses, the disc brake kits, master cyl/booster, etc. Not sure what the next owner will do with it.

Now the bad part- WHAT I traded for:
(as mentioned we are a shop divided, each of us having our preferences. And having sold the '59 F 100 a year ago, we've been looking for another blue oval)

FOUND: A complete '51 F1 SWB with original 239 flathead 8, 3 speed. It's a 5 star cab with deluxe trim on windshield and chrome grill.
Sorry for you purists, but I couldn't pass it up.

I have two more 'Burbs spotted and several more trucks, so there will be another one.

Thanks for all the comments as support thru this project and I am ashamed to bail on it unfinished. But I see no use in keeping it around for years and years and doing nothing with it. If it takes more than a year to do one, that's too much time.
It can rust away in someone else's driveway, LOL!

Re: My 1965 Suburban

Thanks TJ- I didn't have to let it go, just a decision I made- I am in cleaning out mode of all the unwanted, unused items around here.. Doing spring cleaning early this year.

Re: My 1965 Suburban

Well I guess I should have updated this a while back. The "deal" we had working fell thru, as apparently my 'Burb was junk and the other truck was carved from solid gold, LOL!

Anyway, have taken another direction and pulled a sidelined project out of the back and moved it forward.
The diesel dually crew cab will begin in about a month. Using the front portion of the 'Burb shell to create the mega-cab I have always wanted. it will basically be about a 38" stretch with a rear doors, and approx. 8" behind the rear seat. Exact dimensions are being worked out.
Drivetrain: 2001 6.5TD with Allison auto. The chassis is from an '81 3+3 dually long bed, but ours will end up with about a 6.5' bed to keep from cutting the frame.
Not sure there will be a build thread here, as it takes too much time to keep updating.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement on this project, but it's just not what I want at this point, and no one appears interested in it. It's worth more to me to make what I want out of it, than let it sit in the parking lot untouched. There will most likely be parts available off of it, and I'll post them on the facebook page.

Re: My 1965 Suburban

The last ride for my 'Burb. Headed off to a new home in Central Illinois. New owner is as excited to get it as I was when I did.

It was only a day or two from going under the knife to become an extended cab truck.

Sort of hate to see it go, but totally lost interest in it and looking forward to building the Mrs' '65 SWB A/C truck and finishing up my dually collaboration.
