Re: The Hangover Express

Well no actual truck progress, but i did manage to find some time to make a 1.250" die for the pipe bender.Im going to make a 1.500" one also out of the same piece of steel since I only need 1/2 of it for each die.Now I just need to scrounge up some DOM tubing and start bending. When in doubt, add more work for yourself.

Re: The Hangover Express

Well after alot of scheming and decision making I finally decided to put a LS engine in the ol 72.So I did a bunch of searching around and when I finally got a couple days off work to go for a drive the 2 engines I was hoping for had sold the day before. But luckily slammed66 had some spare stuff kicking around and sold me his 6.0L,a set of L92 heads and an oil pan. Thanks Matt!!!!!
Now I just have to do a major clean up in the garage and I'm going to try to get the engine and tranny set in the frame for mock up purposes.

Re: The Hangover Express

Well I finally got a day in the garage again.I got the frame off the sawhorses and bolted up the dropmember again so I can mock up the engine and transmission and start with all the fun stuff! It's about -30c here today so by the time I was done bolting everything up the garage was finally a comfortable temperature.Oh well, thats the fun of northern Alberta,so engine and tranny are mocked up,now I just have to decide what to do next.

Thanks a lot!Yeah I've been scheming on the LS for awhile now, everything I've researched has pointed in the direction of great power and reliability with minimal effort,so,nows as good a time as any!

The crossmember is 1.500" tubing.

It is a chevrolet oil pan.I think it is off a newer camaro but not exactly sure since it was purchased by someone else at a swap meet.It does fit very nicely around the porterbuilt dropmember though.

Re: The Hangover Express

Well after another day of screwing around in the garage I got the rear suspension thrown back in it to make it a true roller again.I also did some humin and hahin over the position of the tranny crossmember.I have the engine sitting at 5 degrees compared to the frame,so I'm thinking I'm pretty close to where i want it.Just gonna have to break down here soon and drill some holes.I did some scheming on where I'm going to mount my fuel tank.Im thinking of making a spacer/mount to place the fuel tank mounts in the center of the frame instead of sitting it on top of the frame rails so I can put some standoffs on top of the frame when I go to mount my box.

Nice build you have going. Keep up the good work. Good choice on the LS. I want to put an LS in my project as well, just need to find a good deal on one.

Re: The Hangover Express

Thanks for the compliments on the build guys!!!!
Well got a little progress done on the truck.I went for the 5 hour drive to edmonton and picked up some parts last weekend,3" flow master stainless exhaust kit, fuel pump and regulator, msd box for the LS,and a bunch of other smaller stuff, fuel line fittings and so on.Then today I got to go to the post office and pick up the headers I ordered off ebay a couple weeks ago!!!
They need a couple mods cause they are the camaro ones with that air pump attachment on a couple tubes,or whatever those are,and I'll have to turn one collector a bit but nothing a grinder and welder cant fix.
I also did some work on my transmission mount,I decided to bolt it on the inside of the frame and run 1" solid through the box and welt it on both sides.Enough rambling, heres a couple pics.

Re: The Hangover Express

Well, i finally got back in the garage after quite a lengthy time away from my project. I picked up a plasma cutter and big welder since I want to big my exhaust and well have always wanted one anyway. So I geared up the welder and plasma cutter on the cart for my mig welder. I was pretty happy with how they fit on the bottom of my cart. I just had to do a little modifying to the back and fit my argon and CO2 bottles both on there also. So today I finally cut off the collector on the drivers side header and straightened it out so that it doesn't point the exhaust into the frame, and welded on the v band clamp to the end of the collector. Found out the hard way though that the big does not like any gap when your trying to weld something that thin. Oh well I'll have lots of time to get the tig dialed in by the time I finish that exhaust.
