New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

Just want people to put info up for people.. Might help them..

Previous weight 3,850 with a half tank of gas. 2,050 front (52.7%) and 1,800 rear (47.2%). This was with my tailgate down (added weight to it so there is a leverage ratio)

Still have the steel front, but no hood/springs, and inner fenders cut out.
Swapped the bench seat for Summit Racing plastic seats.
Made my front crossmember but swapped intakes (plastic to alum) this was technically a wash as I shaved 25lbs but added 25lbs.

New weight 3,620 with a full tank. 1,880 front (51.9%) 1,720 rear (48.1%). This was with my tailgate up so no extra leverage.

Not exactly sure how I got +230lbs out from the last track outing. by my math I only come up with about 150lbs.. But I'll take it!!

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

Phipp.. Unfortunately I'm out of work right now and my mortgage is more important than spending $250-$300 going to the track. it's 198 miles away, so it's a bit of an expense.. Someday..

My very late street night pass on my fairly accurate G-tech (with in .1 and 1mph at the track) says I a 7.68 @ 96.5mph in the 1/8 on a spinning slow 1.89 60' So it should on a good hook go 11.50's maybe on motor??

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

my dad got a truck down to 2800 pounds but we used a smoke wrench on anything we could find we also took out the radiator support and used angle iron to hold the fenders straight, if you really start looking around you can cut weight if you think about it the windows in that thing with the tracks weigh about 30 pounds a piece. you can take more wright out get it on a lift and look under it there is extra bracing everywhere just look real hard.

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

1966 swb with a small block in it add 170 pounds if it is a big block

you can trim the inside of the fenders, doors, you can cut the floor and use aluminum in its place you just have to take your time and think also that front wind shield is heavy you can by lexsan in 4x8 sheets.

there is easily 100 pounds on the frame that can be trimmed

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

i have been working on finding weight to cut. The 3,620 (3,420 with out me) has the following done..

Alum block and heads (LS1)
Trans is rather heavy being an OD 4L80E, I'm sure there is a 100lb saving using a glide.
Bench seat replaced with Summit racing seats
No front bumper
Alum wheels (15x12 315/60/15 drag radial rear / 15x6 front with a 195/75/15 front)
No hood
Inner fenders cut out
Alum radiator
Gas tank replaced with a plastic fuel cell in the back of the bed
Heater removed
Roll pan in rear

The glass front i plan on putting on i think will cut another 40ish lbs.
I need to swap tailgates out as i have about 100lbs added to it.
I have a tow hitch made from 2x4 that probably weighs 30-35lbs that needs to go
I would like to go with a Mustang 2 front when I have a job again. No idea on this.
I have a brake booster that needs to come off (alum brake master) 10-15lbs?
When i can, I'd like to make a new frame from either 2x3 or 2x4 .120 wall.
Windows are definately something I have thought about, but the truck is still driven on the street and get's parked out side on a regular basis.

More ideas would be great..

Oh sorry our was just a drag truck it just looked like a daily driver

our gas tank "fuel cell" was in the back and the battery

but seems like eventually you will get down to about 3100

good luck and have fun with the smoke wrench

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

How are you weighing it? Track with a scale? Around here I've heard you can weigh in at a big truck scale, just have to pay something and they would let you weigh in. What's the weight of your truck in stock form? I have a '91 S-10 and I want to start getting the weight down.

digital scales like the ones that dirt track people use I don't know the original weight we started cutting on it 30 minutes after we got it it took us two weeks to trim it all down

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

Thanks Phipp.. i hope i do too. I want to go racing..

BTW, I have been experimenting with front and rear springs again. since the recent weight loss, i think i might have a spring that will work just as good as the moroso, but it will come from a junk yard for less money, BUT, your front weight would have to be very close to mine. I can tell you one spring that is a little too soft, but the right length, a Jeep Cherokee 6cyl front spring.. 17 3/4' long, but about a 160lb rate. Puts my truck a touch tooo low. The LaC shafts are literally 1/2-3/4" off the ground right now. If your front weighs 1,650, they would probably be on the money.. Gonna try the grand cherokee next.

Re: New weight.. 3,620 with me in it.

Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 springs are money in my truck.. 17 3/4 inches long, guessing 190-200lb rate (I didn't measure compressed ride height so not 100% sure).
