Inlet manifold gaskets

Hi, I am rebuilding my 350 in my 87, when I removed the inlet manifold the 2 rear coolants ports were blocked off.
Have not seen this before in Australia.
Is there a reason for this?
Can I put in gaskets with the 2 rear ports open or is it best to get gaskets with them blocked off ??

Re: Inlet manifold gaskets

The ports in the rear dont go anywhere. The heads are cast with ports at both ends so they can be used on either side. They just get covered over by the intake.

Re: Inlet manifold gaskets

As PGSigns said, the intake manifold typically does not have a coolant crossover passage at the rear of a small block. Starting in about 1988, the trucks did have a port on the passenger side for the heater hose located at the rear port. All of the intake gaskets I have seen have open ports at both ends. This is so they can be used on either side, plus the intake manifold blocks off the coolant port.
