98 K1500 seat changeout question

My son is home for Christmas and while here he picked up a set of leather seats out of a 2002 extended cab wanting to install them in his OBS 98 extended cab. I let him use the shop yesterday afternoon to attempt swap out and he found the bases are too wide because of the transmission hump. Has anyone else come up with a decent way to install these? They have the integrated seat belts and it does not appear to be a simple swap at this point. I am going to take a look at it a bit better this morning but I have a feeling it is not going to happen.

Thanks
Richard

Re: 98 K1500 seat changeout question

Would the '98 bases work with the '02 seats? Maybe that might be an easier solution. Pics might help the discussion since I would consider a swap like this in my '97 EC.

That was my 1st thought was to swap and modify the base brackets. The 98' seats are easy enough to pull. The 02' version looks like the floor bracket is integrated into the back rest because of the seat belts. Here are a couple pics, kinda hard to get a decent one. The 1st pic is the old seat the next two are of the bottom of the newer one as well as how it sits in the truck. I have a feeling he will be pulling the seats out of the 96' tahoe I have sitting here which are a direct replacement

Hard to tell from the pics

It doesn't look like the bases will move over. It appears the mounting points for the bases are at a different width.

Maybe mount 2 flat bars from side to side to give you a new spot to mount the old slides but the question is if the new seats are wider, will they fit.

Re: 98 K1500 seat changeout question

It was a strange day working on this yesterday. The pictures above were of the passenger side seat. There was no way it was going in like it was. We ended up removing the inner bottom slide rail and feet so i could move the seat the rest of the way in the truck. this allowed me to sit the upper feet on the main frame directly on the transmission tunnel and the height worked perfect. I was able to use the front outer factory hole and had to redrill all the other ones. Cut some 1/4'' flatbar to go under the truck to spread out the load and got that side done. only downfall is by removing the slider track the seat is no longer adjustable. Son is happy so we moved on to drivers side. I was figuring we would most likely have to do the same thing on the side but I guess the tunnel is a bit different on this side. I was able to use the front inner bolt hole on this one and drill new holes for the other 3. I did not have to remove the slider on this side so the seat is still adjustable forward and back. Just have to figure the wiring out to get power hooked up to the seat and he will be good to go.
