alternator wiring ?

Somewhere in the past, a PO changed the alternator to a one wire internal regulator SI 10. I want to change this to a 94 amp SI 12 3 wire. I cannot find any of the original wiring from when it had an external voltage regulator. Where should I look to find the wire for the # 1 terminal? What color is it?

Re: alternator wiring ?

See if it was taped back behind the driver's headlight. That wire will be red.

Re: alternator wiring ?

I located the old voltage regulator. Plug has 4 wires going in. Looking down at it, the first 2 are cut and gone, the next one is red and I can't tell what color the bottom wire is, but they are both there. Also I found a red wire in the harness that is cut off. I don't know which wire to use.

Re: alternator wiring ?

Here's a diagram which shows the wires jumped at the old reg plug if you trace the wires to the alternator the brown wire goes to #1 and the red goes to #2. Is this a gauge or idiot light dash?
