70 upgrades

My son and are in the process of upgrading the old family 1970 C10 pickup. It is a straight six, 3 on the column, 4 drum brakes. We have swapped out the front crossmember from an 85 to get the front disc brakes. We are also building a 350 to go in. We are hitting a few problems and would appreciate any help.

We tried to use the motor mounts from the 1985 donor truck so we could use the clamshell motor mount on the engine. The Z-bar is not lining up. The notch for it to ride on the frame is between the two stud positions on the block, and the headers are in the way. We are trying to use the stock Z-bar and just take it off the 6 cylinder bracket. I have not been able to find a 1970 V8 truck to look at to see how the clutch linkage hooks up. I have already determine I will have to add spacers under the motor mounts to get the Z-bar high enough to attach to the frame. Does the V8 Z-bar attach to the engine or the bell housing? It appears to need to be a completely different z-bar to attach to the linkage from the pedal. I haven't been able to find one. We are using all the parts we can find off donor vehicles due to a very limited budget.

I look forward to being on this forum now that we have an old C10. I haven't had time to fully look through the forums. If somone already knows of this swap, please point me towards the thread.

Thanks, Allen
