Extended Warantee - Opinions Please
So as I indicated in my previous thread, we just purchased a 2006 GMC Sierra Nevada edition Z71 with approx. 78,000 km (50,000 miles). The factory waranty is gone, but it comes with a 3 month, 5000 km GM Optimum used car waranty.
Now the question is ... Do I buy an extended warrantee. We could get 2 yr, 24,000 km (15,000 miles) for about $2100. or longer if we want, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I realize these things are pretty much a total crap shoot, but I thought I would ask for some thoughts. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Extended Warantee - Opinions Please
Read any warranty carefully ! Dont spend big $ on your finance persons word.
I wrote service at a dealership for many years and had to inform many people that there "bumper to bumper" warranty did not cover everything. There are good warranties but there are lots of not so good. BECU credit union in Wasington state sells one that is very pricey but if you never use it you get money back and it had great coverage. You might want to look them up and see if that warranty is avail to you where your at? Just an option I don't work for either place

Pass on US Fidelis....found out they have an F rating with the BBB and over 1200 complaints of warranty refusal. Several lawsuits pending....not a good thing.
I am looking at Warranty Direct...they have an A+ rating and only 4-5 complaints in the last few years...all resolved.

Re: Extended Warantee - Opinions Please
Beware of the extended warantee. I bought into on once when I bought my wife a 05 Grand Caravan I was stuck useing the same dealer unless I was 50 miles away. Some dealerships are better than others the only thing i got fix with the warantee was the hood release that I could care less I wanted the dash to work. So one day when the dash was working good bye Dodge hello Tahoe.

Re: Extended Warantee - Opinions Please
Thanks for the input guys - we decided to not go with the warranty. As I said, we do get the 3-month Optimum used car warranty, so I'm hoping that if something comes up it'll be before then. Of course I hope all works well for many years to come...
