383 Stroker Squeal

I put a 383 stroker in a 72 K10 a couple of weeks ago and I could hear the torque converter squealing so I took it to the transmission shop because it was in need of a rebuid anyway. Two days later I can hear a squeal once again that sounds like it is coming from the flywheel. Sound like a bolt is catching something when it spins but cant see anything and cant pin point what is causing this. Transmission is a TH350. Thanks

Silly question but have you climbed under and shined a light physically on the situation?

Re: 383 Stroker Squeal

Maybe a TC bolt is hitting something....new engine, New Flexplate ? Starter ? bolted down correctly ?
Maybe its the pump gears in the trans and the TC was not installed into the pump gears all the way and its making noise....thats why you are experiencing transmission issues too.......

GGGGeeee, Mr Obvious......but I like the question on post number 2....LOL!!!!!!!

Re: 383 Stroker Squeal

Yeah I climbed under the truck with a flashlight and looked while it was running, which is why I said I cant SEE where the issues is in the original post. I am not having transmission issues since the transmission has been rebuilt. Everthing is brand new and everything is torqued to specs. I had the motor on a dyno and no issues until in the truck.

Re: 383 Stroker Squeal

so the squeal came before or after the transmission shop worked on it ? Can you provide a time line of events, maybe helpful.....was the trans rebuilt at the same time you put the new stroker in the truck, was the engine only on dyno or did you dyno the truck ? One day the squeal appeared ?

Does it have the dust cover on the TC area...maybe a rock got up into the TC area ? squealing rock ?

Re: 383 Stroker Squeal

Its was an engine only dyno. The squeal came after the transmission shop. There is not a dust cover on it. I ran the truck for about a day and then then squeal began. Almost sound like the bendix is stuck in the flex plate but I looked while it was running. Seems like inside the cab the higher I rev it the less I hear it.

Take it back to the transmission shop. They will find the squeal for you I am sure. For the amount of money they charged you I would hope they would gladly take a look at it. They are the experts...that’s why you took it there in the first place. Good luck !!!!!

I was wondering if you could post your dyno sheet from when you had your motor dyno’ed. I am always curious to see engine combo’s and how they produce hp/torque. Thanks!!!
