installing 72 steering column into 65c10 help
Well I bought the truck and realized that it was going to take some time, money and effort which I am ok with. I have searched the threads and read up on most of the steering column issues but am not clear on a solution yet. My truck came with a 72 steering column wire tied to the dash so I have had to figure out how it was supposed to go together. I scrounged the steering column brackets and tried to install the column. I understand on the original 65 column the column had 2 bolts that bolted through the lower bracket and held the outer steering column in place. the 72 column has no such bolt holes so after installing it it just turns and twists. Has anybody found an answer for this yet? Is there some adapter that I can use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: installing 72 steering column into 65c10 help
Post #13 in the link is the answer. I put a column from a 69 (I think) into my 1961 using that method. Don't have it wired up yet, but it steers and shifts the gears so far. The later columns have the collapsible shaft, which is why I did the swap.

Re: installing 72 steering column into 65c10 help
I thought about drilling and taping 2 holes in the column to match the way the original columns were mounted. I like the idea of a pin from the top and the rubber spacer for more support and strength. Vetnat my 72 column is poor at best and am looking for a new column. I responded to your for sale add on the forsale site. If you come across something for a automatic column shift let me know.
