This has me thinking. All of the guys that do LT1 or LSx swaps, typically have the VATS eliminated when having the PCM reflashed. Would it not be possible to use that option as it was originally intended?

LT1 swap here. I haven't programmed out the VATS. I'm using a VATS bypass module with a couple of ways to interrupt its power.

I installed a lock to keep the hood shut but I also have a battery cut off switch under the hood and if I need even more security I put a zip tie at the base of my steering column where the gear shift linkage is located so that the truck can't be put in gear and I am able to lock the steering shaft in place. If you they can't get the hood open than they can't start it, get it out of park or steer it. The hood lock is the weakest link. I an trying to figure out a way to use locking hood pins to lock it down. Maybe have the key holes on the flat part of the inner fenders and attach some how to the inside of the hood. So that you have to reach inside the fender to unlock it.

Master power shut off hidden somewhere on the truck. Then use an old school steering wheel lock. Anything to slow them down. Nothing is full proof.

I'm using a grant locking steering wheel quick-disconnect. Not sure if it works with an original column. Pretty hard to drive away if you can't steer.

Yes, My truck was stolen with a cut off switch. It was found 6 days later. It had a tracking devise on it. After the truck came back The company took it and relocated it.

I have an automatic transmission with a floor shifter. It was really easy for me to interrupt the neutral safety switch with a kill switch. What do you guys think of that idea? I'm not sure if it's the best but this way it's no where near the ignition wiring.
Next I'm going for a 2 way alarm. I'd like to use a tracking devise but, I hate a monthly bill.
And of course we all know they can still be stolen but that's not gonna stop me from trying to make it difficult.

In addition to adding a hood lock I figured out how to disable my column shifter so it will stay in park and also my column so that the wheel can not be turned. Of course if they get the hood open they can disable both. I also have a battery kill switch under the hood. I only drive the truck on the weekend so these things I only engage during the week.
