How clean before 2k epoxy

I've been cleaning this some of a B for hours now:

I grind it down with a 80 grit paper on my grinder until it looks like bare metal and when I hit it with ppg 330 the paper towel still gets black! And the backing plate is not coming to bare metal. Can i still spray with 2k or would someone recommend another route?

Degreaser of choice for oil and grease, then mild acid such as rust remover or "metal prep" for the base metal. Save yourself some effort and let chemicals do the work for you. The outcome will be much better as well.

For final cleaning Paint thinner or Ether (starting fluid)
releases the last bit of oil out of the pores of metal.

OK...thanks.... I think i have carpel tunnel from all the scraping and bending over.

I used purple power then mineral spirits on mine...worked great....
