Cab Sealed... Too good?

So I’m having what may be a good delima.

I’ve got an 85 C10 that has one little flaw and it’s driving me crazy.

When I have the windows up, the cab is so well sealed that the doors are hell to close due to the pressure.

When the windows are down, the doors close like a charm. But people accidentally “slam” the door (seemingly with the force of a thousand suns) when the windows are down, because they’re used to the cab pressure keeping them from easily closing the door.

Is this just... normal?

Thanks! (First post here, by the way. Glad to be here!)

Re: Cab Sealed... Too good?

I guess I should be thankful, since air can’t get out that means water can’t get in... but Jesus, when people accidentally slam the door because my window or their window is down, it’s usually with enough force to move my mirrors out of position and everything, which we all know is a pain in the ass to adjust by yourself lol.

Mine is like this too. After replacing all the seals, including having the vent windows rebuilt. Since mine stays in the garage, I keep my vent windows cracked open. This allows for the doors to close easily, without slamming them.
BTW

Re: Cab Sealed... Too good?

If you want to fix it, you can add some cab vents off of a late model truck. It's basically a one way vent that opens to relieve the pressure then closes to prevent water and dirt from getting in.

Here are some on a newish F150:

Re: Cab Sealed... Too good?

The company I worked for in Brasil in 2004 had a small Chevy "run around " 4 door car. Every time you opened a door, the window of that door would roll down about an inch until the door closed, when it would automatically roll back up.

I've never seen a car stateside that would do that. Wonder what all electronics would be involved? Probably not worth the headache to attempt something like that on an older vehicle

many many coupes have that feature. I think its more a function of the way the glass seats in the seal versus ease of entry. I think most autos now have rear vents.

Re: Cab Sealed... Too good?

If you will look to the lower rear inside of the door you will see the grills . There is a 1 way valve with two screws holding it in . This was gm attempt to relieve the pressure but seems to be inadequate . My 82 does the same once I got everything sealed up good .

May want to check and see if the vents in the doors are blocked . As suggested you could add a couple and I am sure it would help a lot .

Just the nature of the beast .

Also the new seals dont help . They make it harder for the door and jamb to come together .

Leave kick panel vents open and make sure the door vents are operable

VW Bug convertibles from what 99 on did this due to the way the window interated with the convertible top. The ex wife's car did this. I am pretty sure the hard top did this to.

Re: Cab Sealed... Too good?

Also, the weatherstrip or seal that goes around the door opening, make sure there is a hole or a gap where the two ends meet back together. The OEM install is like that. When I installed new, I butted it up tight. Was a real pain to close. I cut a little notch out later and it made a world of difference.
