Post leery of drillin'hole in my baby!

got my new mirrors from pauls,now i'm gettin' anal retentative bout drillin' a 'coupla holes in my nice orange paint!how many beers is recommended to start this?

Back yearsssssssss ago me and a buddy had drank a COUPLE of beers when we decided to put my sun roof in my LUV truck, yes a LUV truck. It was my 1st. new truck after intering the work force. Kept that truck almost 5 years and never had a leak in it except for when I would forget to close it at night and it would ran. Make sure to measure it a few times before drilling. Tape over the paint also it helps to keep from scrathing and ops'es from happening.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

brought home a spring-loaded center punch from a buddy at work,keep using the excuse that it's too cold(44deg.this afternoon)to go out to the garage.guess i'm just bein'chickens#$t!!

Ok, easy one here. Use the spring loaded center punch. Then take some good quality masking tape. Bodyshop 3M is best. Put several peices around each hole to be drilled. This helps keep the drill bit from walking on you. And if it does it gives you some protection from deep scratches. Start with a 1/8 inch hole first. Dont try a huge bit first. Bigger the bit, the bigger chance your gonna screw up.

Tape before you center punch! It will help keep the paint from chipping around the punch. Good Luck.

well, i definitely ain't using a hammer&punch!lol lol that's a good way of making a bigger prob.!a spring-loaded center punch is controllable and is the only way to go to keep from walkin' on ya and not havin'a dent on your door! i'm also using tape and a tape measure,just chicken to start(kinda,you know,conversationally...?)made me some backing plates at work,welded some nut's on over the holes i drilled in the steel plates.should have good structural integrity as i made them wide,and long enough to handle the load of a small toddler to hang from 'em!

Definitely tape BEFORE you do anything else. Drill very slowly and try to avoid sharp edges or distorting the metal with pressure on the drill. And good luck!

I would touch up what ever you do chip...also inside the hole too. And since it will be hidden, it don't matter that you don't have any more orange to touch it up with.

DEFINETLY use tape where your drilling to avoid chipping scratching etc,and cerainly do as mentioned before start with a small drill bit and work your was up.Just heard all this the guy who painted my Blazer welded up all the holes now i need to drill holes but im going from them ugly camper style mirrors,i may use 72 Chevy truck style.Wait on the beer from experience-itll look all good and done,then the next day youll be wtf did i do???

OH and use a new or very sharp- bit not the rusty one you found at the junkyard!!!a sharp bit makes all the difference in the world.

nice thing 'bout working in a machine shop you have access to all kinds of tooling & stuff.got me a cobalt drill bit 1/32"started by a 60 deg.center-step drill.heh! heh! followed by a "p" drill (.332")for the actual dia. of the s/s outside screw.
