Re: my first paint job
Only 45, I bet your beard isn't even completely grey yet. And happy 55 to MLB57, nice job on that paint. I'm in the middle at 50, but I'll probably be at least 55 by the time I get any actual color on my truck.

Re: my first paint job
I don't have a beard, never been able to grow one I don't have hair on my legs either for what it is worth. MLB 57 lets see tips for wetsanding, dishwashing liquid in with the water to help the paper slide across the top of the surface and not to dig into it. soak you paper a while before using at least a half an hour so that the paper has time to loosen up. If at all possible wrap the paper with a rubber squegee from the parts store they have a soft version and a hard one these serve two perposes one , when the paper is wrapped in this it will not leave finger waves in the surface like wetsanding by holding the paper in your hand and leading it with your fingers. The other way to use this thing is to wipe down the panel as you sand to check progress as you go say removing a run or orange peel while sanding wipe away the soapy water[ yes put soap in the water you use to sand with as well, you know the sliding thing] that way you don't remove more that needed. Also criss cross patterns please!!lets say your gonna start 1200 grit go lower left to upper right. Then wipe that down clean it up and move to the 1500 just after the largest of the imperfections are gone[ie;runs orange peel, thrash,so forth]the 1500 will remove the scratches left by the 1200 grit. Colorsanding is a pain in the rump but it is also very rewarding so take your time be really careful on the corners and good luck to you . Jim

Re: my first paint job
That looks fantastic! Love the color. Do you mind if I ask what paint you used? Did you have the color matched, or did you order from a color chip?

Re: my first paint job
I used omni MBC base, omni 161 clear and the white is gm3800 DBU. The had they had the paint code mix for that year and color at the ppg store if that makes sense.

Re: my first paint job
Did you have adhesion issues? What was the issue?

Re: my first paint job
So you were using dupont epoxy and omni base? Trying to figure what went wrong so I don't have the same thing happen to me! On my paint job I used southern polyurethane epoxy and clear and Wanda base and haven't had any problems with it so far.

Re: my first paint job
paint store said did not let it flash long enough. one thing i have learned is to follow the flash times so who knows what happened. wish that it would have done it before i had it assembled had it masked off working on the tailgate and started coming off when i took the tape off its done so that all that matters.
