Rear End Question

Newbie here. I recently acquired a 72 c20 and I will modernizing the drivetrain and doing a full restomod. It’ll be a 5.3l mated to a 4l60e. My question is if I would be able to swap in a 2008 Escalade rear end with 3.42 gears and 6 lug in place of the 8 lug rear end. This would allow me to use modern stock Chevy wheels and have rear discs. The front would obviously be swapped to 6 lugs as well.

Thanks!

Re: Rear End Question

I am sure the shock location would match up. But you could give it a try

Re: Rear End Question

Time to do some measurements, I like comparing the width at the wheel mounting surface. If it’s within an inch or 2, you are probably good to go.
You will probably have to move around spring perches and shock mounts.

Re: Rear End Question

I would focus my attention on a 14 bolt semi-float. Stronger than a 12 bolt

Re: Rear End Question

Yes you can put anything in there you want. Just get the spring perches installed correctly with the right pinion angle. You will more than likely need a new rear yoke for driveshaft but thats a given you will have the driveshaft redone anyways, along with redo shock mounts on rear end or truck, then the master/combo valve selection.

It can be done, but its not a simple deal. You may want to look into just swapping the axles to 5 lug and new discs.

Its only $$ right?

Re: Rear End Question

I may end up going the axle swap route and doing 5 lug. I was originally intending on using late model 6 lug wheels as I’ve got 2 sets that I’ve yet to sell off.

Yeah if it was a 70 or earlier that would be cool, but I'd try and keep it 5 lug.

Re: Rear End Question

I'm going to assume this isn't a stock Rear end. The build sheet has it with 4.10 gears and I'm just now shopping around for rear end disc conversion as well as wheels. What would be my options on rear disc conversion?

Re: Rear End Question

Was this OEM or aftermarket? I apologize for all the questions. Just want to cover all my bases before I throw money into it.

Re: Rear End Question

That Dana 60 is OE and a little bit of a surprise as most Chevrolet's got the Eaton axle.

I would keep it. It's way stronger and has more aftermarket support than the AAM 8.5 axle in the Escalade.

Re: Rear End Question

Thanks everyone! I’ll be keeping this rear end and converting over to disc after I refurbish it
