Looking for feedback before buying 71 k5 blazer

Hey Everyone! New member here to this forum. When I was 5 or 6, my dad had a 71 k5 blazer and I remember it being awesome, but then he started a frame off restoration and 25 years later its still unfinished. Now that I'm a little older and have a little play money, I want one. I've been doing a ton of research over the last month or two and I found one I like that happens to be within 15 minutes of me!

Here is the Craigslist link: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto...664173155.html

I talked to the owner on the phone and he said the following:
350 motor turbo 350 trans. Factory tach factory tilt and the doors and dash havent been cut to add speakers or a cd player. New suspension lift new shocks new exhaust new tires the list goes on. The truck runs and drives great. Says there are 3 dime sized rust spots behind the driver side door that aren't through the paint. He bought the truck 6 months ago and planned to tow it behind his RV but decided the truck is too nice for that so now he's selling it (fishy). Claims the paint is a 7/10. Electronic ignition so no points

He's asking basically $25k. What are your thoughts on that? Any special questions I should be asking him that I havent? Going to bring my dad to look at it with me before I make any decision (dad's a mechanic) but I have been looking at prices online and they're all over the place, $10k to $80k. Hard to value this, so I'd value your opinions and expertise.

Thanks!

It's a good looking truck - price seems right about there maybe a bit high. Depends what you think about the dash/doors being cut.

I'd really look at the rust, and try to get a peek at the floor pan.

Thank you for your feedback! This one the doors and dash have not been cut. Not sure I'd care if they were, but I want this to be a fun toy I can own that wont depreciate and could appreciate while Im playing around with it, so I'm thinking it's better they aren't cut.

Oh i misread then. Yes I think un-cut will help the value. (Just dont cut it if you buy it )

Then the rust is the biggest thing for me.

Any idea how long ago it was restored? I've become leery of restorations that have rust coming through after only a few years. Lots of ppl out there just slapping Bondo over rust holes and putting a shiny coat of paint on it... Not saying that's the case here but I'd look it over real good for that kind of money.

Also if there are rust bubbles under the paint it likely means it started from the back side of the panel and has already rusted completely through. The paint is usually the only thing keeping it from being an open hole.

From the looks of the engine bay, and zero pictures of the undercarriage, it more likely means nothing was done to them. I'd be more interested in seeing it in person and can surely knock down that $25G price tag
down. That price should include rebuilt or base crate motor, trans, axles,
not just shiny paint to reel in unsuspecting buyers

Looks nice and priced in the right range..IF the looks aren't hiding a multitude of problems...
I got this '72 for a little more but I got it from a friend so I knew the history and had actually helped work on it some when he owned it...
best advise....Look it over really well....

I talked to the same guy. I think at about $21-$22k it's a pretty good price. The deal breaker to me on that particular truck is that it has ghost flames. Not my style and doing a complete over-spray would be cost prohibitive for me. Does look like an overall nice truck though.

They are subtle... Not my thing either but they wouldn't turn me away if I were looking for one.

Re: Looking for feedback before buying 71 k5 blazer

earlier style mirrors, maybe doors as well? 72 grill shell? chrome glove door, original SPID still around?

I'd look it over real good.. too many replacement/missing parts, unwanted paint features, rust, etc. could affect its value..

good luck!

Definitely not all original but I prefer the early side mirror over the sport mirrors... Plan on installing those on my 72.
