1947 Gmc 1 ton? and 1963 Gmc pickup - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well guys I currently purchased a 1963 Gmc pickup for one hell of a steal. Been passing by the truck sitting in a pasture for nearly 15 years now and finally decided to stop and ask about it. Long story short I bought the 63' but was also informed by the owner that her deceased father had also owned another truck that was stored in the barn. We preceded to the barn, and there I found a (what I believe to be) 1947 Gmc 1 ton flatbed. The truck looked to be in great condition and even had the keys in the ignition. Anyways I have no knowledge of this 47' and would really appreciate any insight you guys could give me regarding what its worth, model, motor/tranny...I have a few decent pictures but the truck was in a tight spot. I am picking up the 63' Sunday and was planning to make an offer on the 47' and bringing both trucks home. Can't stand to just see them rot away. Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can provide me with.

That's a fine looking truck, I hope you can buy it and do something with it.

Gotta love those farmers that stored them indoors. Looks good and solid. It will have the wider front fenders and clip than the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks but cab is the same.

That's not a 1 ton it's a 1-1/2 or 2 ton. 1 ton trucks had the same front bumper as the pickups and the same hood and fenders. That one has the heavy truck bumper and longer nose with big fenders.

Nice looking truck though. In fact a very nice and straight looking truck that should look pretty presentable when it gets cleaned up and I'd bet a bit of tinkering and it will fire up. A lot of those trucks got used a couple of months out of the year during harvest and got put back in the shed until the next year and were very seldom used between harvests.

Thanks guys for the info, yes I am pretty excited about this find. I've seen people turn these into pretty cool car haulers. Any idea what motor is in it? Google does not seem to know anything about it.

Did you pick the GMC up? Looks like a nice shape truck. Never see any nice older trucks when I come down that way for work. Jim

I would guess 248 GMC inline 6.

Being it's a larger truck, it's possible that it's a 270 also.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist.
