Duke's turning into a handsome fella - can't believe he'd be a terrorist! Love the wigwam.

Re: Terrorist in my house

Agreed on the WigWam! We crate trained our Pit. They all need their own space.

You're doing right with spending tons of time with him. He'll be the best behaved dog as he matures.

I've found many times when people are complaining that their dog is "wild" or untrainable, it's because they are the type to get a puppy, spend some time with the cute new pup but not teach it anything expecting the dog to develop obedience on their own.

I had spent TONS of time with our pup and still do. He's super confident (nothing worse than a skittish dog), well socialized with people and other animals except raccoons for some reason.

Great looking pup you have there. He's gonna be a great friend if he isn't already!

How's Duke doing? Need an updated picture. Here's my Bonn at 13 weeks. All feet - I think he's going to be a monster.

He sure looks a lot like Duke. Yeah. That's going to be a big boy.

Duke's 4 months old now and already over 40 pounds. (He can eat) He seems to get bigger every day. His daddy was huge.
He's mellowed out a bit. He still gets a little crazy if he gets excited. I try to keep a lot of toys around to distract him. I bought him some tennis balls and they lasted about 5 minutes until they were ripped to pieces.

I took him to the vet for his shots. And he wanted to get into it with a pitbull there, which I found odd. My Chihuahua's chase him off if he bugs them, but he'll go and pick a fight with a pitbull. Go figure.

But he's growing like a weed. And really good around people. Pitbull's not so much.

Re: Terrorist in my house

Sounds like a fearless pup! Mine just thinks everyone wants to play. Daughter's dogs growl and snap at him, he thinks they are playing. Our cat jumps him going for the throat, he thinks he's playing Ours has gone from 12 lbs to 23 in the 4 weeks we've had him. Generally pretty chill, but my wife has not learned yet to put anything she cares about out of his reach!

Re: Terrorist in my house

I crate trained both of my dogs until they were past the chewing age (around 2). One is 14 and the other 15 now... I don't think they have the energy to chew anything.

Well Duke has grown a lot bigger. A LOT! But he doesn't seem to like furniture. Now I have to buy a new sofa. My white leather sofa is trashed. But he's getting better. Slowly but surely. That couch is wasted!

Re: Terrorist in my house

We've had dogs all our life. Labs and Goldies. Always crate trained them. From a pup we had them in a crate at night and when we left the house until we could trust them not to tear things up. Throw a small biscuit in the crate and in goes the dog. It becomes their safe space.
When they are still in the chewing stage we don't give them a soft bed in the crate they will just chew it up. We put a small heating pad under the bottom plastic panel in the crate and that's where they sleep. 10-20minute a day of training will turn a unruly dog into a great dog.

how pathetic, bragging how much our mutts "eat" lol

Rumble is coming off sedation right now. he got 4 stitches inside his leg, the muscle, and 9 more to pull the skin back together.
not sure what he cut it on. we were at the river, loaded them up- no probs, stopped at a diff spot to let them out and there was blood ALL over the back of the truck, was a gusher. used my boot lace and a towel to try slow the flow.
and of course i don't have a cell phone and was about 20 miles from home.
risked many tickets getting him home and band-aided up till we got him in to the vet.
can now add $480 to his repertoire...
dogs....
would'nt have it any other way

I thought the same thing until we got my youngest hound. He hates crates. He destroyed metal crates on a daily basis. I came home to him ripping bars out and getting his head stuck in the bars with bleeding gouges around his neck. No matter how far away something was he managed to get it to the crate and destroy it. Finally I caved and he got to roam the house while I was at work and I didn't have to clean up nearly as much destroyed things every day. Now he is 8 and does well. He still steals things off the kitchen table and moves it to the bedroom unharmed and on occasion checks out the trash can. Now the trash gets put in the bathroom when we leave. Quirks aside he is the best dog I have ever owned. We just have to remember that he is a hound and that his nose will get him in trouble.

Bonn will be a year old in a couple weeks. He's my constant shadow and in general behaves when he wants to. He's drawn to my wifes shoes and socks, and no new toy lasts much over an hour after he gets it, but for the most part not too destructive. I say that, but we came home yesterday to find how he spent his free time. Missing from the pic is the pump that he managed to drag out of the tank. He'd chewed the cord off 1" from the pump. I can only think he managed to get it unplugged before chewing through the cord. Oh, and he had to have ignored the invisible fence (which he does regularly) to get into this bed. Hard to believe they are the same pups we showed at the beginning of this thread.

Re: Terrorist in my house

My friend had a Samoyed that ate a fairly thick steel pie pan. He pooped it out and was fine.

It was a cool dog. Scared the number two out of me when I walked up to the house though. He would hit the gate like he wanted to kill you. But once my buddy came out he was a really mellow dog. But he was big and scary.

I'll never forget my friend opening the gate and letting him out with me standing in the driveway. But all the dog did was drop his ball for me to throw. But I couldn't... I had to go home and change my shorts.

Good looking Shep.

Duke is the same about behaving when he wants to. And we have to watch our shoes too. He's sneaky and he's quick. My wife was cooking and turned around to get a stick of butter that she had put on the counter...No butter there. And Duke was nowhere in sight. She never saw him and I had to go buy more butter.
