Dash Pad Restoration

Hey All. I've been working on restoring my dash pad and wanted to share my experience. The dash pad is off a 1984 Silverado and it was in terrible shape. It was dry rotted with large cracks and the vinyl was coming of in large sheets. I was seriously just going to chuck it until I caught a wild hair and decided to try to restore it. I started by removing all the vinyl and burring the cracks down to the frame. I filled the cracks with spray foam and after 24 hours cut off the bulk and sanded it down. It looked good but there was some weak areas around the console area. I put a layer or fiber glass over the weak areas and then a layer of Bondo. Once it was all sanded it really looked good. We taped the entire dash with masking tape and made a pattern following the natural lines of the dash. Vinyl was cut and stitched with french seams. That was my wife's doing of course. Vinyl was glued to the dash with Loctite Heavy Duty Spray Adhesive. Here are some pictures. Its not done but I'm really pleased with how well its turning out. Total restoration so far has cost about $60.
