Winter Disappointment

So I went out to the garage this weekend and decided to fire up the truck. Pulled back the cover and noticed my new interior door panels cracked. I first bought a set from Classic Parts of America, were absolute junk. They made it right and refunded my money. Then went to LMC. They looked decent and fit well. I have had them on for just under two (2) years. This is a frame off show truck. What are my options here? I have no problem spending the money for the right ones, but damn do they get expensive. I thought LMC would be a great set. Would it be worth contacting them?

Thoughts?

Re: Winter Disappointment

Well that just sucks. I have had my LMC panels for several years now and haven't had any issues. It never hurts to call, all they can do is say they can't do anything, but you just never know until you ask.
Where were they cracked at? Can you post a pic of them?

Re: Winter Disappointment

Noticed a crack in one of my LMC panels the other day too. One quick phone call, some pics sent to customer service, and a reply email later, new panel on the way.

Re: Winter Disappointment

I just called. Looks like I purchased 5/12/16. out of the one (1) year warranty period. Said they may give me a deal on shipping, but that's all they can do. Thanks but no thanks, dont want this to happen again. Any recommendations on better panels These guys cost me $200. Not happy

Re: Winter Disappointment

Looked at USA1 and they look the same. I'm guessing the odds are good they are the same. Thought about covering with cloth see how that goes.

Re: Winter Disappointment

Maybe its not something you want to look at - but you could try the TMI custom panels - wouldn't have the stock look but I think they are nice looking.

Re: Winter Disappointment

We saw some pretty cold temps, and I occasionally work in my garage and kick the heat on, which is right next to the truck. But the truck is covered, they may be the cause.

Re: Winter Disappointment

Anybody else use coverlay?

http://coverlaymfg.com/i-11360777-co...or-panels.html

They say the panels will not crack under extreme conditions. Will reach out to them to see what the limited warranty covers.

My biggest concern is the fitment.

How was the fitment? Do you like them? This is my truck I plan to put them in.

To avoid cracking you need to eliminate any stress points. One common stress point is where the top edge meets the rear of the vent window vertical bar. The weatherstrip is sometimes just an 1/8" too long and even though the panel snaps on with a bit of force the weatherstrip is actually getting mashed between the bar and the inner core where its not supposed to be. Always do a careful test fit and trim back the weatherstrip with a Dremmel if needed. Those panels should just drop down over the inner core with little pressure needed.

Re: Winter Disappointment

I bought coverlay from Classic industries. They have been on my truck for 8 years. My truck stays outside in the Los Angeles sun and heat. They have little cracks on the top. Mine are tan, and in some of the corners i can see the coating lifting, and the black underneath starting to show. The door pulls are also not as good as factory...they are cheesy wood. What are you gonna do? i guess i'd buy them again, if i had to.

Re: Winter Disappointment

It was mentioned to trim the filt window guide. Here is a picture of the damage and the untitled felt. Should it be trimmed all the way back to the edge of the vent window?
