77 Cheyenne meets Ramjet 350 by N2TRUX

Ive been looking for an EFI engine to drop in my 86 GMC and this RAMJET 350 is looking better and better everyday. There is only one thing that has me on the edge. I was reading that this engine requires 92 Octane gas and with premium gas on the rise at $4.35/gallon I will have to pass this one up. Are you running 92 octane? Or is it possible to run it with 87 without upsetting the engine?

Welcome to the forum. Im not sure where that info came from, but it is not corre t. I have never ran 92 octane, and my motor runs great.
I did a LOT of research at the time of this install, and looked at several options. There simply wasnt a better "efi package" option on the market.

With the ever decreasing cost of doing an LSx conversion, you need to consider that too. When this was done a cheap LSx install would run around 8k.

Lord let me tell you that your truck and those hills are my inspiration, I never tire of seeing them again and again unfortunately where I am very difficult to get new parts for my cheyenne but slowly advancing the project and once again congratulations delas has a square body trucks best in the world if not the best.

I was under the under the impression that premium fuel was required. The link below contains the exact instructions from GM. If you go to page 5, which lists the engine specifications, it states:
"Fuel: Premium unleaded - 92 (R+M/2)"

Now you have this exact engine in your truck and ive seen youve been running for quite awhile now, and to hear you say you were running regular is a huge sigh of relief because i cant afford to get 10 miles/gallon and pay for premium on my daily driver. But with the GM Instructions stating that premium is required, would the regular 87 octane gas cause problems for the engine? And if it does cause problems, would there be any other EFI engine that would be an easy swap for less than $6000.00 that should be considered?

For optimum performance, the suggested premium fuel should be used.

Most GM ECU's simply tweak the timing to adjust for fuel quality. In the 02 TransAm (LS1/6) I drove, you could run 87 w/o issue..... it just didn't have the same power it would if using 92.

super truck great info and pics .................. on another note your wife calling you anal well she was being nice lol just pickin i get that from your daughter sayin the air filter cover looks like an ant eater or ardvark something like that and you didnt see the humor in it. there again i am sure you saw some humor in it at least now anyway. i gree it looked like a armadillo head with the screws in it. welded with a bracket looks 100 times better.

Well that makes me feel good about this motor, those ECU's are pretty impressive. I really appreciate the info

The info you linked may be newer than my motor, but I'm pretty sure that was not there when we did the install on mine. I know it was not listed on any of the information when I did the research. Regardless, I can attest that I have never ran premium unleaded in mine, and it runs great. It might run better with higher octane fuel as Scot mentions, but we will probably never know.

Then I bought an 84 GMC Sierra at the end of October, and I realized I had to make a choice. I could do the upgrades I wanted to the Sierra or the Cheyenne for Lonestar Throwdown, but there simply wasnt enough time in my schedule to do both. I opted to focus on the Sierra.

Wow I'm behind on reading this thread but great looking engine bay. I'm just starting top coat paint on mine right now and am starting in the engine bay. Was agonizing over whether or not I should satin black a lot of it, glad I decided to go gloss after looking at yours.
