What does this wire attach to ? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

We have the wiring figured out except for the big red wire in the picture over engine. It has 2 female connectors on the end and look to bed a little thicker than most other wires. We cant figure where it is on the wiring diagram either. Anyone know what it connects to ? I also posted this in the Electrical Thread. Just realized my truck has factory A/C and do not see anything on wiring Schematic showing the compressor wiring.

It looks purple to me. That would be to the starter solenoid "S" terminal, except that has a round end for the stud on the solenoid. Looking at the 12R wiring, I'm not seeing a place except possibly at the voltage regulator.

Trace the wire back to the firewall block where it goes in the cab. What position is it in? Or does it go somewhere else? Why do you say it has 2 female connectors on the end? The picture does not seem to show that.

Thanks for the reply. It does look a little purple I guess but its not the starter wire as its connected already.

I see your truck has factory air conditioning. In the factory AC wiring, the wire carrying power from the blower relay to the blower is purple..

Fast idle solenoid for AC. See it just to the right of the thermostat? I can get a better pic if you need it.

I'm no expert, but I've been to many trips to the junkyard and I've never noticed a car with that solenoid using wire of greater gauge than maybe 16, tops.

I'm used to a green(?) wire, about 16 Ga. Things get modified over the years. That fat wire looks like if would be pretty tight in the clip on the valve cover.

regardless of color or terminal type, do not just blindly connect this wire to some random accessory.. Looking at photographs to determine where it might connect is pure guess work no matter who is doing the guessing. Trace the wire back to its point of origin and refer to a wiring diagram to determine EXACTLY where it goes..

If it's RED I a have a similar wire that goes to my tach. Old pics, but the location and size look similar.

Thanks everyone but the wire is in itsrightocaion now as are all the others and fond out a couple were redundant. Just s just about donw witha few small details to button up. Snow and Winter road grudge are almost so can drive the truck when done.
