Forum Upgrade?

I'm active here and one other automotive forum, and they both use vBulletin software. The other one uses a much newer, updated version however that adds a couple of features I really like:

- The ability to paste a photo into a post from the clipboard. Makes it super easy to insert pictures into posts.

- The ability to insert videos (and their thumbnail) from YouTube. Makes it super easy to insert videos into posts, which we can't really do at all right now.

Any chance? I don't know the economics.

Re: Forum Upgrade?

What site are you referring to? If you don’t want to name the site can you post the version of VBullletin it’s running? I’m curious.

The company Internet Brands (IB) owns the VBulletin software, IB owned websites get V3.9.xx while others are stuck with V3.8.11 as the newest iteration of version 3. There are version 4 and version 5 of VBulletin. The fact that IB uses a special iteration of V3 instead of V4 or V5 should tell you something.

I’m not an IT guy and I forget the exact issues that V4 and V5 have. I can tell you I’m not a fan of v3.9.xx and the rollout of it on sites I’m a member of took months to iron out the major bugs. There’s some interesting reading on Wikipedia about the history of VBulletin and some explanation of the issues with V4 and V5.

Yes, I know who I am and where I'm at. Are you OK Special-K?

Anyway, I'm talking about this site, the one we're one. Not sure where the confusion came in, I'll check my post!

I have no doubt upgrading can be non-trivial, but sometimes it's worth it!

Re: Forum Upgrade?

I am tippy top, Dave. The problem is you seem to post 100% of your threads in the 67-72 truck message board no matter what the topic. That isn't how it works hear and you should know that... and I'm sure you do. I already know why you do it and that's not a valid reason, nor is it fair to your fellows here. I can explain why that is if need be, but you surely must already know, don't you?

Your feedback is now in feedback. I know, more members look at the other place. But the staff and administrators look over the whole site and that is who's attention you need. Besides, there are all the other year message boards with members who don't bother with the 67-72 board that will agree about the need for easy video posting and how that would be a great benefit to the health of the site
