Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

IT WORKEDDDDDD

ok back on track with this build... so for those who were wondering I got the steering wheel finished up which I was really excited on how it turned out.

C10 work by Craig Warren, on Flickr

then decided it was too boring....

and finally realized that little horn button is very hard to tape nicely....

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

with the steering wheel in place and admittedly too soon I was now able to bang my head on it for the next week while working on the rest of the interior....

starting with the carpets
C10 work by Craig Warren, on Flickr

went with a dark blue for now as the end game plan is a baby blue paint job and I think that and the white will all tie together very nicely..

ALSO HERES A SNEAK PEAK....

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

covered the speaker boxes in trunk liner and they fit nicely under seat.. although I should mention with mine being solidly mounted they do limit front to back movement of the seat due to the spring mechanism hitting them... anyways with just the two little speakers under the seat and the in dash two speaker setup from lmc this thing pumps (and I still have kick panel speakers waiting to instal but I'm torn if I should do that or carpet (I have both).

More c10 by Craig Warren, on Flickr

unfortunately I didn't really get any goo pictures of the speaker instals but at least my dash is all back together!! heater tubes in place and were off to the races.

More c10 by Craig Warren, on Flickr

seemed boring to me again... so i think the trim tied it all together just perfect.

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

Thankfully I was able to find some leftover seat material and create a nice shift boot to tie everything together.

god I love that seat!!!!

pulled this rats nest out of the back of the box.... starting to wire up the LED turn signals and brake lights...

I thought I had it sorted but plugged it back in and got nothing!! Im hoping it was just the signal switch, When I'm back home I will try and find a solid state mechanical flasher that will fix it....

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

Well its been a little while since I made any progress... or should I say since I documented it hear in the build thread. I have been tinkering away here and there and have made some good strides towards finishing (or at least being back on the road)...

First I began to test fit my drivers side front fender. Fit really well except I wasn't happy with the lineup to the rocker. So a little nip and tuck and I can live with it for the time being.

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

Next it came down to the passenger side front fender... it was not nearly in as good of shape. As per usual a little grinding found a ton of bondo work here and there.... of course it always seems to be on a bad curve or distinct body line.

Should have called this "Project Bondo Removal"

Moreeeee c10 by Craig Warren, on Flickr
This is how we started...

Moreeeee c10 by Craig Warren, on Flickr

Not quite my best gap work on a patch but it was shaped well... Sure wish I had a fancy wheel, all of my metal shaping is done with a hammer on a shop stool cushion...

Moreeeee c10 by Craig Warren, on Flickr

Moreeeee c10 by Craig Warren, on Flickr

Next a little patch on the bottom and you can see another rust hole on the front here but I stupidly never took pictures of that repair..

Next if was a quick shot of primer and bedliner on the inside of the fenders after checking fitment one last time...

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

hung both the fenders and began to work on gaps. Also don't worry there is no bondo on there just a couple coats of filler primer to smooth things out..

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

So now its time to try and match this ****ty paint up... As weird as it sounds I managed to mix up a gunmetal rim paint and then sort of ghost spray a green tractor paint over top....

what do you think?

Sorry for the crappy pics, trying to work around a lift post and then dealing with a cramped shop

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

Next up now its time for some hood hinges..

OVERALL SPARKS NOTES REVIEW:

Do not use PB hinges if you plan on running deluxe heater box. Probably work great with block off plates. Plan on re-tapping all the nuts on the hood mounts as most of the threads seemed screwed up from welds. Good hinges overall but for over $400 would have not expected to have to still struggle and work on them so much....

Made some template... does not tell you your templates MUST SIT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE INSIDE OF THE COWL or else you risk setting your hinges too high.

Tagged on the hood mounts after measuring about 900 times!!

Drivers Side went great!!

And then came the passenger side...

Re: 1965 C10 ... Project Name: Just Learnin'

...trying to make it work. Don't worry I already ordered a new heater core to modify properly (thinking about flipping it upside down and running the heater lines out of the bottom of the box in order to clearance the hinges)

Then clearance side of heater box and bolt head

^^Dont judge this is temporary!!
