Lowered shocks

Working on my '72 GMC build. Complete tear down and rebuild. 6.2L LS 495 / T56 Magnum.

Need advice on what brands and models of shocks you guys would recommend.

Specs:
Flip kit (lowered 5.5" in rear)
drop springs and spindles up front (lowered 4" up front)

My ride length for rear shocks is 14.5", would need to compress to about 11" and extend to about 17".

Ride length for front is 12.75", would need to compress to about 10" and extend to about 16".

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Lowered shocks

I'm running the KYB GR2 on my 69 chevy short step. It has the DJM flip kit that dropped the rear just over 7" and it has 2 1//2" ECE conversion spindles along with 2" springs in the front.

I used stock length front shocks all the way around. I drilled the rear mount's second more vertical hole and mounted the new shock bolt there. IMO, it works and rides great.

I have CalTrac bars on my truck and I removed the overload because it was interfering with the bars.

Im running Caltracs as well and will be removing the overload when I tear everything down for powder coat. Did you grind on the front spring perch to give the Caltracs the "pivot" they need?

Thanks for the info.

Re: Lowered shocks

I have no interference on my front mount. I know others have, but it seems there may be more than 1 front mount design depending on where your truck was built.

Re: Lowered shocks

Hey Bird dog ----I hope your caltrac install goes better than mine. The pivot assembly would not fit properly in my spring mount. After back and forth with Calvert they said I could remove my mounts from the frame and they could mill them so the pivot would fit. After looking at my mount and estimating how much metal that would have to be machined to make these pivot as designed. I really wanted to make these work but made the decision to send them back for a refund. Keep us posted as to how your install goes.
