Had a chance to attach the taillight/stake covers/roll pan last week. Also installed homemade hidden latches.

The latches were put together in about 2 hours from a couple of spare parts - conduit, 1/2" rod, washer, spring, knob. Costed out to about $7 for both. Turns out I couldn't use the knobs, the threaded part was too short. A 2" 10-32 bolt is the temperary fix.

Very interesting. I am working on a stepside bed filling and shaving to make it look good. You have done some very creative things there. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Keep up the good work and keep posting those pics.

how and where did you put the latches? i would love to get rid of my chains cool idea. Also love what you did with those tail lights i would love to get more info on that. very trick.

At this point I'm done welding and fab, just starting to fight with the body filler to cover up those welding oops.

Randy70C-10: The LED tail lights are for the trailer part of an 18 wheeler. Got them from here . I originally got the ones that mount in a rubber gasket. Didn't like the look of the big black surround so called the vendor and requested the flush mounts; they sent them at no $$$. BTW: I mounted them INSIDE the stake covers, BEFORE I welded them in. You <DO> know what this means.....If a light goes....I get to use a sawzall to replace it. I'm REALLY counting on the predicted 100,000 hours that LEDs are supposed to have

Chevykid1969- OK, I'll admit it: the latch idea was, er, borrowed from Classic Performance . Their article says to mount in the upper corners of the gate, and punch holes in the bedside for the spring loaded pins.

Bluebeard: Ahhh, remote hood release....let's see.....that's scheduled for July, after the truck is back on the road. Actually looked at this a few months back, but couldn't figure out anything quick, easy and reliable. Maybe I'll have better luck this time.

I'll keep those pics a' postin'. Eventually I'll learn how to adjust the lighting so you can actually see what's being shot......

And, just for fun...can anyone guess how I install/remove the tailgate?????? The answers in one of the pics posted last week.
