Big washers used on front bumper

We got any venders here or outside to purchase these big flat washers, and or can I find them at a good nut and bolt supply place. What would be the size needed.
Thanks

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

McMaster Carr is a good Go-To place.

They have different plating choices also.

They have all the Specs of thickness and diameter so there is no surprise.

Ace Hardware or Fleet Farm in my area. The hole in the flat washer only has to be big enough to clear the square portion of the bumper bolt.

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

If you have a good Ace hardware they carry square hole washers. They are for lag bolts but work well .

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

.

Was in lowes recently hunting for some hardware ( nuts bolts and washers ). In their section where they have the grade 8 hardware in drawers, there's a drawer or three dedicated to automotive and one of the categories was fender washers or similar. They had what you're looking for methinks.

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

See washer #10. It's a special oval shape and one side is thicker to compensate for the bracket angle. If you don't have them I'd be careful when tightening these two bolts as you could suck in the bumper. Maybe some kind of half shim? On the diagram they are listed as special. I can't believe I kept mine when I disassembled the truck years ago. I'm sure somebody on the forum knows of these special washers.

Does anyone have a picture of this illusive #10 washer?

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

Here's the elusive # 10 washer.
The washer should be flipped over to match bumper. Sorry about that.

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

Interesting.
ClassicParts is selling these in two styles;

"Original style Polished Stainless Steel flat washers with offset square hole." $3.96.

"(1934-72) Offset Washer - Zinc-Offset Washer for 1934-72 Chevy Truck $1.50

Somehow I'd wonder if the originals are stainless. Possibly they were sometime in the 38 years of production?

Also appears the "re-pops" are flat, not concave to fit the bumper. The thickness, of the, ClassicPart, washer is also not specified.
The thickest washer in the McMaster Carr listing was .040".

They also have a square hole not round. Although both make sense from a pragmatical standpoint.

To keep from damaging your bumper the re-pop washer should somehow be massaged to match the bumper profile. Either by bending the washer or grinding a taper into the washer. Even with the excellent pictures posted by "howzzzit" it is difficult, for me, to identify the profile. Stamping this washer to be thicker on one side would be interesting from a OEM cost prospective. The re-pop could be tapered with a grinder.

I a pretty sure my truck is missing this washer. Just another detail that need to check on.
Good discussion. Thanks everyone.

For a steel bed floor to frame? I give, why? I know they're carriage bolts, but the head bottoms don't contact the washers, speaking for a 1971.

I believe the original washers are extra thick however, like all or most bed assembly washers.

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

what about using a teflon washer? it seems these could be shaved down fairly easy to replicate the angle desired

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

howzzzit or anyone else have the ID and OD and a nominal thickness for the washer?
I like the idea of Teflon. I have some round stock here and could easily replicate them in Teflon. Or 3D print them in plastic. I really like the plastic/Teflon idea.
Cheers

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

Well, trying to measure it with my Harbor Freight p.o.s. caliper I get 1 1/2 d x 3/4 id and thickness about 1/8. Sorry I can't get more precise.

My bad. I was referring the washers used on a stepside bed.

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

My digital says 9/64", so 1/8". They get bent up pretty good, so if original, best to put them back the same. On topic, my bumpers are supposed to be ready, their mailbox full. If so I get to drive 500 miles RT to pick them up from Fresno on Wednesday. Go figure they still do triple chrome in Ca., hmm. Word is the gov. more/less restricts it but enjoy the tax income anyhow.

Re: Big washers used on front bumper

Who in Fresno is doing your bumpers? I'm about 90 miles north. Nobody up this way. Had them done in Stockton and it didn't last. They even tried to give me some cheap bumpers in return. Luckily I put my I.D. on the back of each bumper. Make sure you get yours back. Anyway funny thing they are out of business. Why did you choose this place? There are suppose to be good platers in Nevada. What's their name? Good reputation? By the way, the platers are given time to convert to the p.o.s. chrome. Let us know the name and quality of the job. Don't know how one can tell by looking. Had mine chromed and they were storage in my garage for a few years. Looked really good and were never on the vehicle. Developed micro pits in the chrome and there are a couple of areas you can see a hint of copper. This happened in the garage. Probably didn't triple plate. Cost?

You know of any good places in Nevada? I sure don't. One local reputable since passed, I don't believe anyone does it, even in Vegas.

I marked the bumpers for sure. Even weighed them as they were. The place in Fresno is called Moreno's Chrome. I've only read positive about them. Just got off the phone, looks like another week out. Cost estimate is 1700-ish. I'll try to remember to report, here.

For what worth, assuming my scale is worth a (^^, here are what my original bumpers weigh. The rear was replated once before.
