Re: Would you buy this truck with ...

On this particular truck the 4 speed would kill it for me. I wouldn’t want to mess with putting in a TH400 on a “done” truck that needs only minor details to make it really nice for
my taste.

Nope I’d rather have the 4 speed. I’m with Tim on this one. Nice truck that can still get the work done.

Re: Would you buy this truck with ...

I'm with the guys who would be more likely to buy it because it is a 4 speed. A C20 big block manual truck with 3.54 would be great for driving and towing. I really like the extra control of the manual and the granny gear.

With the 4 speed manual at least you know that anyone under the age of 30 wouldn't mess with it or steal it, lol.
...at least unless their parents drove it to the hideout for them.

It wouldn't stop me. I'd rip that 402 4spd out, slap an LS/6spd in, do a short bed conversion, patina, and go all out with No Limit goodies. I hate starting with junk

Re: Would you buy this truck with ...

Would I buy a truck with a driveline I didn't like? Absolutely, that's the fun stuff to change. As long as I factored that into the price and a deal is still possible.

In regards to the posted truck... no way, but not because the of trans, I think the truck is way overpriced.

Would the Granny 4 speed stop you from buying this truck?
H-E-DOUBLE-HOCKEY-STICKS NO!!

I LOVE my 4-speed. Daily drive it in the city? No problem. Road trip? Yes please. If you want overdrive, add on a Ranger Torque Splitter.

But this is a matter of personal preference. While the SM465 is superior to all other transmissions, save the SM420, not all individuals posses the mental and physical fortitude required for operating a clutch-equipped vehicle day-in-and-day-out. And if you prefer not to increase the tone and firmness of your left quadricep then PM me to donate your 4-speed to a charitable cause.

Or ones like this that are not odd at all, yet not with the mainstream. The old style brake controller says it was ordered to be a real truck for real truck use. I would guess a horse trailer. Nice dash job! Tilt column is also not OEM
I know what I like and I like 4 speeds

A half-ton, big block, with an SM465? I don't think I've ever seen that combo before. Maybe a 3/4, but never a 1/2. Is this a unicorn?

Re: Would you buy this truck with ...

For me the 4spd is a requirement. I wouldn’t buy the truck if it was an auto. I bought a Colorado with an auto for my DD (so my wife could drive it even though she never does) and I hate it, should have never traded off my other truck with the 5spd. I think manuals are much easier to control. I just bought a 65 and passed on a couple nice tricks because they were autos. It won’t be long before manuals aren’t available anymore and Id like to be able to change that. Look at new trucks, find one of the big 3 that offers a truck with 3 pedals. Even semis are going to autos. I know that I can get in any vehicle and drive it.

Those granny gear 4 speeds were real stump pullers with the coil spring rear end. Digs in, and hooks up.

I drove one for years. I miss that combo.

Re: Would you buy this truck with ...

Not me. I had a granny 4 in my 1995 gmc K3500. Loved it, but your clutch leg can get tired in a traffic jam. Pulled a truck out of the ditch once in first and never touched the gas, just crawled out. That's with the 6.5L diesel, though. Other than stuff like that its a three speed, 2, 3, 4. Coincidentally, that tranny stuck itself in reverse at an intersection and I had to have it towed. Bought my new 2008 silverado cuz it seemed like too much trouble to deal with at the time, I had a lot of work and it was blazin hot in the summer of '08.

I'm new here, but I would be less inclined to buy it if it were an auto trans. I'm of the opinion that trucks are supposed to have three pedals!

I really like it! My thought is I would buy it if I had the money. I like the 4 speed, cause in today’s world most can’t drive an stick shift, so it would be hard to steal....

Re: Would you buy this truck with ...

Do it.

The "farmer four" is a great tranny. In most cases its a 3-speed, but if you ever need to pull a Ford out of the ditch, or tow a dodge to the salvage yard or if you've got some stump-pulling to do, you've got that insanely low 1st gear (its actually slower than reverse!!!).

That is what I have in my 2wd 1/2ton '67, and I'll never need to worry about it not being able to handle the 383 stroker.

A slushbox would stop me from buying a truck. I was interested in getting my '71 GMC Jimmy 4x4 when I looked in and saw a stick. I knew how hard dealers were pushing the automatics back in the day, so I figured this was a rare unit.

The dumbing down of society. My wife (when I had one) drove a stick and so did or do all three kids. My youngest is on his third vehicle, all manual. My daughter has only had manuals, more than my youngest. My oldest has had a mix. But his first car was a 3 on the tree he drove for 8 years. They wouldn't let the 4spd deter them from buying that truck. All five of us would love to own that I am sure. That's right, my kids would have no problem stealing that vehicle... except in the morality dept.
