Post Anyone using an electric fan?

Hello,
I am running a 350 and would like to switch over to an electric fan. Just wondering if anyone is using one right now and how it works? I was thinking of getting a 16 inch one and use it in a puller configuration. Thanks.....Lumpy

Hello Lumpy,
I have a decent 350 and i just switched over to a single 16" puller,it works pretty good,i bought it from AutoZone for $79.95 with a lifetime warrenty. I also think that you gain like 10hp? from swithing over from the conventional belt driven fan..

How do you have it wired up? That's one thing that's kept me away from electrics for now...my wiring is a bit crappy and I've gotten burning smells from running the A/C fan, let alone an engine fan. Aside from that, I would definitely love to run one.

I have 2-12" pullers. Wired to a 30 amp relay wired to an adjustable thermal switch. Then direct to the battery.

I use two 16" in an offset fashion frontleft/ rear right with an electronic switching thermostat, in Az and I rarely get up to 200 sitting in traffic. Just make good and sure that you wire it clean, otherwise, you will get melted wires.

I forgot about my 30 amp fuse it's between the thermal switch and battery.

Wes, there really should be a relay between the switch and the fans. A Hayes tech told me that.

I was told that if you switch the ground side of the wiring it is not necessary to run a relay since you are only completing the ground with the switch and not running the power wire through it. It is also basicly the same diagram supplied with the thourmostat, the switch on the dash only acts as an over-ride switch. Wink

That very well could be Wes.
These hayes fans I have, the switch runs to the fans hot leads. Or atleast that's what the tech told me to do. I'm electrically challenged, I just followed his directions.

Well, if I ever hook that up (with fresh wiring like that, I wouldn't have to worry about the crap original stuff!) I'll measure the current through the switch.
