Question Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

FLT,
I also noticed that you were able to somehow install your 91 seat further back in the cab than most all others?? Even with the gas tank still in there?

Did it require that you change the angle of the seatback to a more 'upright' angle?

Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

I put this seat in like 10 yrs ago . Had the truck since '89. Looks like I cut an angled the back of stock '91 bracket. Here's a pic from front of underside of seat looking towards back drivers side. They say memory is the first to go ... It started lol.

Flthead, you can put 5 pics per post. Find the first, upload it and then, rather than closing the popup window, find another pic, upload that, etc. Any questions, PM me.

Question Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

I'm just gonna take a guess here ... because I don't have any experience with the 88-9? seats ... but it looks like you also installed the seat in it's 'forward most' position on the sliders?? The seat frame looks to be way back in relation to the seat. Is that correct?

Are you able to slide the seat forward when sitting in the truck? I'll bet not, right?

Didn't mean anything negative by my observation ... just trying to figure things out from pictures. Been noticing where that front factory hole lines up with others that installed same seat.

I do what is best for me in my trucks too. Why not ... I'm the one who has to drive it!!

Thanks for all the pictures and info FLT ... good stuff!!

Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

Here's mine. was in my truck when I got it. Have no clue what they are out of but it's actually 2 separate seats and the passenger is larger and can fit a 3rd person...and pretty comfy too. But I'm thinking about a recover or getting another set up.

The burb seats were not in any of my trucks, but friends. Putter should still have a thread somewhere in the FAQ area about the install. I am 6' 1" and I fit OK (long as it is not a stock wheel. Very comfortable, way better than stiock. You are a little higher than stock and the regular88-94 bench install that I did. Putter also shorten, well push in his steering column some to get more belly room.

Here is Putter's notes for the install he used on his truck and GMAN69's truck

***
I ended up slotting three of the existing holes in the seat brackets for the driver's side (outer-front, outer-rear and inner-rear) so I could fine tune the alignment (twist it a little), and I drilled a new hole for the inner-front bolt. Then on the passenger side, I used the rear two holes just as they were (spaced up about 3/4"-1" off the floor). The passenger front-outer has a long slot under the slide track (Yes a second row seat slides...for entry into the rear). And for the passenger inside-front, I drilled a new hole. I also cut off both passenger seat front mounting tabs as they were not needed.

Thanks for the info Bill ... very helpful.
I'll see if I can access the Threads where Putter posted his install, and try to upload it onto here. Not sure how to do that, but this would be a good place for a 'link' to those Posts.

Maybe somebody with some site savvy can offer guidance on how to attach a link to his Posts?

Thanks again Bill. I'm interested in Burb seating and also Tahoe because I think they stretch across the interior of our cabs a little further than the 88-94 style? Did anybody else notice that?

Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

I had not noticed that with the 67-72 body styles, but have noticed it with the 73-87 trucks.

The burb and truck seats are the same width far as I know. the cabs of both are the same.

Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

I just recently "finished" my seat install. Drilled eight holes. The inner passenger side holes were the most difficult to locate and get right for me. I placed the seat on the lower portion of the cab floor. After driving a bit, I now think that I need to cut and lower the mounting brackets to bring the seat down a bit. I'm about 5'10" and I feel like I am looking out the top of the windshield.

Stock 1989 Chevy truck seat 60/40. Installed with plates under the cab floor along with seat belts out of same model truck. I like the feel of it and I like the height of it. drove the truck 13 hrs out to Arlington Tx this past year and not one time was I stiff when I got out. The seat fits the trucks pretty good.
Seats have held up well over the years. No rips are tears so far going on 20 + years. Pictures are last few months.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

2009 Gmc seirra

The only modification I made was shortening the center frame to move the middle seat forward, as shown in the last image. Then it was just drilling holes.

I like the look of those 2013 ltz leather seats, might be time to upgrade to leather soon.

Re: The Definitive 67-72 Seat Swap Guide Thread ....

This is mine. Needed something to replace the ripped to shreads stock unit so I picked up this cheap out of an 87. I welded flat bar to each corner and drilled holes in order to use the factory bolting points. It sits a little low but at 6'5" it's manageable. Besides it makes it easier to pimp lol. I can slide under the wheel much easier now.
