1967 C10 Steering Shaft/Lower Column Bearing

Most of the posts I came across reference steering shaft and lower columns bearing questions are for 69-72. I just removed the steering shaft on my 67 c10 to replace the lower steering column bearing. It appears that the lower bearing is non existent or has completely worn down to thin little washer (see pics). I am trying to figure out if the shaft is suppose to have the groove above the spring in the pic, or if this is a result of the bearing being worn out. Also, I am unsure of how the lower column bearing is installed in the bottom of the 1967 steering column.

It looks like your shaft is just about worn in half and the bearings are completely gone. you will need a different shaft and a new bearing. You may be able to pick up a complete column and just swap it in.

The bearing is held in place by the spring, large washer, and clamp.

Ok that is what I was afraid of. Also, are you able to tell from the steering column picture if the outer part of the old bearing is still in the steering column (as I was not able to push my new bearing into the end of the column).

I am wondering if I just go the shaft route... would I have to get a 67 or 68 shaft if I decide to keep my column... or would a 2 piece 69-72 shaft work in my column without fabrication or maybe I am able to take my shaft to a welder and get it repaired. Just trying to figure out the easiest and most cost efficient solution.

Yes, the old bearing case is still in the column. You will have to pry it out. I don't think the later shaft will work in your column.

If the welder was a real craftsman it could be welded. It would have to be turned down to stock specs after the weld job.

Thank you LockDoc! I think I may have a lead on a 1970 column plus the shaft.
