6-lug Wheels
Ok, by now we all know now about the 3 nubs = drum brake/4 nubs = disc brake difference in these wheels. Now I have another difference I never realized existed. Some wheels are offset (back spaced) 1/4" more than others. I have no idea why or which vehicles got these different wheels. I believe these larger back space wheels were from later, because the one wheel I noticed this on was argent color. I didn't know where to put this since these wheels come from various years, but it's pre-72s that everyone is using these wheels on these days. Does anyone have a clue?

Re: 6-lug Wheels
I thought the 3 nub drum brake wheels were different offset than the 4 nub. If you don't know for sure and i don't know for sure, than we both don't know for sure........

Re: 6-lug Wheels
I had no idea about this till I sold another member a pair last year and just recently had his powder coat guy spot the difference. It's barely detectable and the overall width is the same. Just 1/4" more back space. Why?? Right through '91 all 6-lug 10-bolts used the same brakes and everything about the configuration is the same. It's not like GM to make silly superficial changes. That's always been Ford's job.

Re: 6-lug Wheels
Were the 6 lug wheels the '62-'70 versions or the '71-'87 versions? I have only noticed the different offset on 8 lug wheels, vans used the more positive offset ( hubcap closer to curb), while pickups used the more negative offset.

Re: 6-lug Wheels
This wheel was a 6-lug 4-nub 15 x 6 from a '90 Blazer or Suburban, painted argent silver. Back space is 5.5" and 5.25" is what the others (white) were. These are measurements given by the fella with the wheels. Definitely 1/4" difference.

Re: 6-lug Wheels
OK..Tim...sorry it took me a while to post these pics, but here's the argent wheel in question and a white one for comparison. It is identical to the other 6 lug, 15x6, 4 nub rims I have...other than the 1/4" difference in offset...and yes, I was mildly embarrassed that the powder coater noticed it practically immediately on the back of my truck jumbled in with all the other parts he was going to cook for me. I hope his eagle eye serves him that well when evaluating his work.

Re: 6-lug Wheels
You say the argent wheel is from from a '90? That may be the difference... I was under the impression that it's the 73-87 wheel (white, 4-nub, 6-lug) that we look for. Maybe with the new body in 88 they changed offset a touch?

Re: 6-lug Wheels
It was a '90 Suburban, same design as 73-87. The '88-up design (GMT400) put an end to hubcaps and began the era of styled wheel/center caps only
