Lesson for the day.
Never trust the pimple face kid at the tire shop. I just put new front ujoints ,carrier bearings, rotors and pads on my 3500 dodge last week. Noticed it needed new tires so I had the local tire shop a national chain.
Yesterday I drop off the truck and pick it up around 3 . Everything is fine till I make a hard right turn then all hell breaks loose . Violent shimmy in the front end. Got off to the side of the road. Look under the truck for something obvious. Nothing pull on the right front tire no movement get to the left and it wobbles. Got the cap off and there are two studs snapped off and just sitting in the cap. All the lugs were loose not just a little they looked like they were started and never run home. Evidently the two that broke were tight and when I turned they snapped clean at the rotor. I called they sent a guy up to look at it. Said they would take care of it . In some colorful words I explained they wouldn't be touching the truck. Tightened the other six and got home. Needless to say I replaced all the studs with new. Sucks since the carrier bearing is the hub and studs also. They paid for the studs and voided out my tire purchase.

Re: Lesson for the day.
I checked all the other wheels and they were all over torqued. Loosed and reset them to 140 ft pounds . So from now on I'll be dropping off rims for new shoes. Just like I do for my collector cars

There's a reason I do all my own tire rotations....

Re: Lesson for the day.
Years ago I watched the manager of a local tire shop (national chain) who I had specifically asked to use a torque wrench to tighten my lug nuts. He grabbed the air gun and ran then down until it stopped, and then put his clicker-type wrench on them each. I wasn't surprised when it didn't take any effort at all for all of them to reach the preset torque.
I don't trust anyone with torque on my lug nuts. I check them all with my own, calibrated torque wrench.

Re: Lesson for the day.
I had to use wheel adapters on my first old truck when the tire shop put on my new rims and tires. 2days later a bud stopped me saying both my rear wheels were wobbling terribly. Come to find out they only tightened the wheel to the adapters but not the adapters to the hub. Could have been real bad.
And once a big guy put my wheels on with an impact set on max. Took two of us on a long four way to break them loose.

Re: Lesson for the day.
Before I graduated university, I worked as a mechanic. The local tire shop got the tire work for a fleet of trucks I serviced. When they came in for brake work, it took two of us with 3 foot cheater bars on the wrench to get the lug nuts off. I called the tire store on it, and the only response I could get was, "The truckers love us, because the nuts never fall off." Of course not- they were so tight they had spot welds between the nuts and the wheels!

Re: Lesson for the day.
I may just invest in a used touchless breaker /mounter my son works for Mercedes Benz as a master mechanic. They have an older one that I can pick up cheap. Just need to make room in the barn.
He used to do them for me no charge. But they stopped everyone from doing this last year. I still get free inspections though. 9 old cars and 5 everyday vehicles not to mention the 6 trailers. Never used to do the trailers but the statues have the plate readers and will ticket a trailer with an expired inspection.

Re: Lesson for the day.
I keep a 3 foot long cheater bar in my trunk. Not so much for me but when I help a disabled motorist that clearly lets a garage do everything.
