Suburban frame question

Is the frame from the same year 2 wheel drive C10 8ft the same as the same year Burb(72). I just bought a 3/4 ton 72 Suburban and I want to lower it and make it a half ton. I have a redone frame from a 1/2 ton Cheyenne. I also have a 89 Burb 1/2 ton that I am going to part, will the suspension fit easy on a 72?

Thanks
George

Re: Suburban frame question

Before you go doing all that work... the frame is 99% the same betweeen 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.Theres a few added braces, and beefy suspention parts... nuts and bolts and it all falls off. I just did this myself, 3/4 ton to 1/2 ton conversion.
To answer the actual question though... I *THINK* they are the same, or at least close enough to swap out.

Re: Suburban frame question

only diffrence is the body mounts every thing else is the same. I agree with Longhorn there is not enough difference in the 3/4 and 1/2 frames to make it work removing the body unless you are going to do it any way to paint and pweder coat or c notch or some thing.

Re: Suburban frame question

Thanks for the replies. I should have said that my Cheyenne frame is a 1/2 ton rolling chassis. I was thinking how nice it would be if the burb body could bolt onto it. I am trying to get away from the 8 lugs and 16 inch wheels.

Re: Suburban frame question

I've dropped my suburban body on a 72 4x4 long bed frame, and ya everybody is pretty much correct, you need to swap out some of the body mounts. Positions 3, 4, & 5 to be exact (position #1 is the radiator support). Here is a pic of #3 installed. Sorry no pics of #4 & #5, haven't bolted them on yet.

The other thing is that the suburban frame is longer, so I cut and welded the rear frame horns on. This extra length also gives you the last body mount,... position #7. I boxed the frame in at the speice and also filled in the truck body mount hole and drilled in (hole saw) Suburban position #6. See attached pics. Hope this helps.

Re: Suburban frame question

I was gonna mention the rear frame length and "kick-down" but k5kev nailed it.
