64 c10 2x4 to 4x4 conversion help

I got my 64 c10 lwb when I was 14 years old as my first vehicle. My grandpa and I did a frame off resto. We bagged it, dropped in a 350, and 700r4. I later switched to factory suspension, then to a static drop. When I graduated high school I moved to Houston for school and she has been sitting ever since. I want to get her back on the road as my daily driver but I wanted to do something different.

To make a long story short, I want to convert it from 2x4 to 4x4. I have been searching and reading all night but can't seem to find all the info. I need help as to what year model axles and transfer cases will swap in. As well as a basic direction to get started.

A link to a thread that includes this info would be great too!!

Thanks guys.

Re: 64 c10 2x4 to 4x4 conversion help

You can run whatever front axle you want, just need the matching t-case. If you can find a divorced t-case, you can keep your existing tranny. If you go with a GM axle, then look for a Dodge or International, both early to mid 70s, they have pass drop 205s that will match the pass drop of a GM axle. If you find a Ford case, they are driver drop, then will need a driver drop front axle. 78 and 79 3/4 tons have the same spring perch width as GMs, so will bolt in in that aspect. 78/79 1/2 super cabs will have same axle, just 5 lug. These are Dana 44s, high pinion, but a Dana 60 is also available, but are much more money. And overkill for anything less than 38s, or a heavy foot. You could use your existing rear, but may not match the front. Rear is already 6 lug, but could swap it out for a Dana 60 from the same ford you got the front out of. But since you have coils and trailing arms, will need to get some spring hangers and springs.

It's not overly hard, but not a day job either. I did a 4wd swap on an 89 crew cab, again not hard, but lots of pieces are needed.
